f THE REDSKIN Rush Springs High School Redskin Anthem Black and white forever, Shout the victory. For our school and our team, One and all are we. We'll make the golden rule days. Glory and success. For our school and our team is R.H.S. Middle School Grade School In Treasured Memory ... This year the normal activities of the school year were tragically interrupted by a senseless traffic accident December 1 in which Tyanne and Patrick were killed by a drunken driver. Although our hearts were saddened, everyone has many beautiful memories of the brother and sister team which will be treasured for years to come. Mindy Bailey, Michelle Townsend Officers: President, Kim McAdoo; Secretary-Treasurer, Michelle Town- send; Vice-President, Darin Horton For the past three years Rush Springs High has had students involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, an organization not only for athletes, but also for those who want fellowship with Christian friends. They have regular meetings which consist of a devotion scripture reading by one of the members, plus the general business meeting and lots of talking. For recreation, they had lots of fun visiting old haunted houses and scaring each other. They also participated in the Homecoming parade with a decorated pick-up. A few members threw candy from the back (what they didn’t eat, anyway!) At present they have twenty members on their roll, but would like to see an increase in the future. Anyone who shares their goals of having Christian fellowship is eligible for membership. 71 FUTURE FARMERS 1980—1982 Chap- ter Sweetheart Tyanne Musshafen and 1981—82 Star Farmer Rusty Rust enjoying their awards. Wendell Jeffries. Oklahoma State FFA President, spoke as our guest at the Parent Banquet last spring. Five members went to Kansas City for the National FFA Conven- tion in the fall. Also, members worked hard during the annual sau- sage sale and slave sale to raise funds for the 1983 banquet. David Ballard won recognition as the top sausage salesman. Last summer at the Prague Jackpot Show the Rush Springs FFA Chapter members won Sweepstakes Trophy. Other shows which they attended were the Pauls Valley Jackpot Show, the Tuttle Jackpot Show, the Oklahoma National Barrow Show at Oklahoma City, the local and Southern District Shows, and the Grady County Show. To wrap up the fall show season, FFA members attended the Lawton Silver Dollar Barrow Show and the Tulsa State Fair. During the spring our acivities included the Newcastle Prospect Barrow Show, the Great Plains Lamb Show at Lawton, the Duncan Jackpot Show, the Shawnee Jackpot Show, our local and county springs shows, as well as the Carnegie Livestock Show and the Okla- homa City Livestock Show. — Marty Duke. Activities for the High School Student Council members began as they introduced their new sponsor, Mrs. D'Ann McLearen, to the joys of working with their organization. With a new sponsor and some new ideas the group became quite involved in several activities. In September they sponsored a “Mr. Sexy Legs Contest which attracted a great deal of comment, especially when the pair of legs winning the most votes was found to belong to Mr. McAdoo. In October the council members were responsible for the production of the Senior High Football Home- coming activities. As a theme they chose to have floats centered around Oklahoma's Diamond Jubilee celebration. The sophomore entry, which was titled “Oklahoma: State 1907—Redskins: State 1982.” won first prize. The senior entry featuring a covered wagon, was second and the juniors, third. Student council members had a couple of light moments in chuckling over the problems they had spelling “Council” on their own float and sampling the goodies which they were tossing to students along the parade route. To further round out the theme, the homecoming queen and her attendants rode in horse drawn carriages furnished by Jerry Fairchild. Jack Stringfellow, Roy Dorman, and L.D. Lindsey. In November, five members attended the Oklahoma Association of Student Councils State Convention at Yukon High School. They were Trish McAdoo. Angie Crow, Mike Townsend, and Suzy Coffman. Lesa Jennings missed the trip as she chose to have a restful stay in the hospital instead. Due to scheduling problems. Mrs. McLearen was unable to go with the group and they were accompanied by Mrs. Nell McAdoo. Unfortunately, there were no pictures made of the “high-jinks which happened there. There were some interesting snapshots made of one of the trips they made to Duncan right before Thanksgiving to cat pizza and Christmas shop at Ward Mall. They managed to maintain their neutrality regarding nationalities by attending El Palacio and sampling the cuisine there in December. Along with the fun there was also work involved in money raising projects including candy sales, pizza sales, bake sales, and cake raffles. Some of these “Goodie” sales were held during the lunch hour in the high school lounge area. There were many excellent selections available but everybody agreed that the peanut patties that Mrs. Haynes sent were superb. The year's activities were finished out with a rousing “Hello and Goodbye party held to welcome all new members and to bid farewell to the senior members. Isn’t Garfield just a Scream!?
