Kim Bishop Tana Cox Kayla Davis Carolyn Dorman T he Rainbow Began . . . On August 25, 1969, an unruly troop of '29 of our present members of our 1981 class became FIRST GRA- DERS as we entered Mrsi Leonard's and Mrs. Spear's rooms. These excited but uncertain young- sters were Richard, Doug, Miles, Kim, Tammy, Tim, Kevin, Janie, Clifford, Judi, Johnny, Kim, La- Nita, Greg, Steve, Judy, Darryl, Barbie, Kevin, Pam, Woodrow, Judy, Kayla, Vicki, Marla, Francene, Naomi, Loretta and Carol. We were a group of talented youngsters preparing to square dance for entertainment at the talent show, playing cowboys and Indians at recess, and starting our band off with Please, Please Don't Be a Litter Bug. I Finally, we passed the hrstgrade and made it to SECOND GRADE where Mrs. Parish and Mrs. Young taught us to tell time, however, as you can see, some of us are still tardy. We also added Lisa McAdoo to our crowd of energetic classmates. 1 THIRD GRADE brought many new experiences along. Mrs. Stewart, Mrs. Pelley, and Mrs. Combs, who retired . andvvas replaced by Mrs. Shultz, kept us under their close supervision. Some of us watched eggs' 4 become chickens in the incubator, and the rest of us had to stand in the hall for various reasons. FOURTH GRADE was an industrious year for this was the year of the great sand castle contest. It 'was Mrs. Kirkpatrick's room versus Mrs. Pelley's as we each tried to build our class's entry the highest. The end result was a tie and a great deal of sand in clothing, hair, etc. One outstanding lesson of the year was llPianos weren't meant to eat on. FIFTH GRADE brought four new friends, Donald, Glenda, Robin, and Steve. Mrs. Laing and Mrs. Vincent Y spent many tedious hours teaching us the fifty states and their capitals. We finally had the privilege of beginning our basketball careers. We also had great aspirations of becoming famous musicians or vocalists as a result of our first full year of band and vocal classes. - SIXTH GRADE was an exciting year. We were the llSeniors of grade school. Mrs. Conover and Mrs. Ballard kept our enthusiasm within bounds while guiding us through the year's studies. Pep rallies and looking forward to graduation into middle school kept us anxious and busy. All through the SEVENTH GRADE we had the experience of changing classes and trying to beat the tardy bell. We thought we had really arrived when we got to go to Tri State with the band. Lynne and Lisa came in time to enjoy Mrs. Werhan's participation grades. Everyone remembers the closeness of the EIG HTH GRADE basketball tournament at Am-Po. We had the dis- tinction of being the first graduation class from middle school. The band visited Six Flags and Car- olyn Dorman joined us in time to go along. As FRESHMEN we finally made it to high school and became the low men on the totem pole once again. Our football team was undefeated and unscored against. The Home Ec department threatened dis- aster, but culinary talents and sewing skills began to improve and hope began to show for our fu- ture domestic lives. Ruth, Ruby, and Janelle became far-out freshmen that year. Russ, Tana, and Annette added l'spice to our Drivers Ed class and great renditions of Shakespeare's ROM E0 AND JULIET and JULIUS CEASAR echoed through the halls as our SOPHONIORE year got under- way. Lake Charles, Louisiana, became our foremost goal as the year came to an end because our band trip was scheduled in April. Our JUNIOR year brought with it excitement and anticipation as we awaited the arrival of our class rings. From selling T-shirts and candles to car washes, we accomplished our goal of providing an elegant banquet for the seniors. Displaying unexpected courage, Coach NlcElroy and Coach Walker worked diligently with the material available in order to field a team to play in the Powder Puff Football game against the seniors. Although our class wasn't too-pleased with the score, we did feel our cheerleaders were outstanding. We enjoyed our band trip to San Antonio, Texas, and then anx- iously awaited the day when we would be Seniors . Now we have arrived. We are at the top of the totem pole! Along with the privileges of Senioritus have come many responsibilities, great expenses, and hectic schedules. Our memories hold tears and many laughs. Although we will miss our friends and the life-we've shared, we have challenges to con- queror and new friends to make. Graduation is the end of one fragment of our lives and the best is yet to come. l S The Pot Of Gola' Is.
