“School Events, 194 46 The new school year opened on September 4th w1th three new teachers fllhng vacanc1es MISS Gertrude Poelma Homemak1ng Mrs Walter New comb Mathematxcs and Mr Rlchard Rxce Soclal Studles and Hlstory Alfred Lozxer School Custodlan and Bus Dr1ver for the past fourteen years reslgned to pass on h1S dutles to Harry Fletcher A new school bus was purchased by the Board of Educatlon to ass1st1n the transportatlon of students from the rural dlstrlcts ln the town A full tlme school schedule was re sumed wxth the endmg of World War II The annual Armlstlce Day Assembly was held on November 9th wlth Dorothea GCISSICT and Kenneth Flshell as the newly selected Flag Guardxans for the commg year Mr Lee Wlles Com mander of the Stevens Connor Amer1can Leglon Post was the guest speaker A severe epedemlc of Influenza struck the school early ln December and the school was ordered closed untll after the Chrlstmas holldays The an nualChr1stmas program was canceled and the annual Chrxstmas Concert Nas postponed unt1l January 17th when a large aud1ence agam attended to enjoy the presentatlon of the Band and Chorus dlrected by Mr Nelson Doe scher The Patch Test was 3dl'1'l1HlSt6I'6d to Elghth and Semor Students on March 18th A three act comedy Act Sour Age was presented by the Semor Class to a large aud1ence on March 29th All members of the Class part1c1pated xn the play under the dlrectlon of Mrs Wllllam Wmchell an was one of the year s most successful events sented on Sunday even1ng Apr1l7th Th1S beaut1ful rellglous drama was presented by the school cho1r aSS1St6d by solo art1sts Mrs Gene Bell Mr Sxdney Carlson and Mr Arthur Shoep 1' he Future Farmer boys sponsor ed the Father and Son Banquet on Apr1l 24 ln the Rush Town Hall It was the first banquet to be held since the beglnnlng of the war The sucess of the baseball team clalmed the mam student mterest durmg the clos1ng weeks of school The team captured the Monroe County Class C champlonshxp w1th v1ctor1es over Penheld Plttsford Honeoye Falls and Scottsv1lle In the Sectxonal Play off games Rush defeated Ontarlo H1gh School of Wayne County by the score of 4 to 1 but lost the semx final game to Gorham Central School by the score of 5 to 3 W1th 13 v1ctor1es 1n 18 games played ln basketball and 15 vlctorles ln 17 games played ln baseball the school has en1oyed one of xts most successful sports seasons The closlng events for the muslc department mcluded a tr1p to Churchvllle H1gh School on May 17th to glVC an assembly wlth the Glee Club partlclpatlon ln the Memorlal Day Parade by the H1gh School Band and the Annual Spr1ng Concert on June 6th whnch was the crowmng muszcal event of the year Act1v1ty Day was held on Wednesday June 12th F mal school exam 1nat1ons were held durlng the week of June 17 The Twenty Fourth Annual Graduatlon EXCICISCS were conducted on Mon day even1ng June 24th 1n the Rush Town Hall Audltorlum Dr George L Mxddleton Pastor of the Calvary Baptxst Church m Rochester was the guest speaker of the even1ng . .
