At a nearby table R. D. HARRIS, JR., the owner of the well-known Harris Produce Company, was having lunch with the manager of the Rural Retreat Land Auction Company, TOM SULT, Several other very distin- guished persons were also having lunch there. Among them I recognized HENRY NEFF, who had taken over the F.B.I. since Hoover's retirement, and K. P. GRUBB, JR., the Postmaster General, who was having lunch with one of Hollywocd's renowned actresses, JOYCE KIDD. After lunch I was soon one of that great mass of people gathered to hear Carl take the oath of office From my position I could see photographers busily tak- ing pictures. I immediately recognized one as the star photographer for WThe New York Timesn, LUCAS POWELL, JR. I saw a group of boys and girls and I must confess that it took me several minutes to recog- nize their teacher, HELEN SULT, who was now teaching civlcs at Rural Retreat High School, and had brought her class to Washington to witness the inauguration. I1 I talked with the '49 Editor of The Cabbage Patchu, ANN WRIGHT, now editor-in-chief of the WWash- ington Heraldn. She invited me to her fashionable home for dinner that night. BILL WOHLFORD successor or Jenn L. Lewis, and a lovely model, ass:-scan. Musssn, were among the celebrities present. The noted singer, DAN MOORE, was also there. I was told that his beauti- ful bass voice was the marvel of music lovers all over the world. The millionaire play boy, J. C. MOORE, st- tended the dinner with the world famous lady chemist, ELEANOR SHUMATE, who was responsible for the harnessing of atomic power. BETTY SUE BYERS who had recently written a best seller entitled, 'Life On a Farmn, and Andrew Rose later Joined the party. On our way to the Inaugural Ball we saw a figure clad in white entering the home of a prominent family in Washington society. She was recognized as the private nurse, BETTY KINDER, who had been hired to accompany the family abroad. Suddenly I remembered I had completely forgotten to wire my mother that I would be home some time the next morning. We stopped at the Western Union office and I was very much surprised to find the telegrapher was J. WEBSTER SPIVEY. When we f1nallgRreached the ball, a very charm- ing lady, MAXINE FISH , was being welcomed. t seemed her husband was the owner of the Blue Circle Cab Company

The ball was being held in the ball room of DOROTHY COOPER'S spacious house. There were many familiar faces. Among those present, I recognized my sister, ELEANOR KINCER, who is now head of the American Red Cross. MILDRED HUDDLE producer of Universal Pictures, arrived ln her limousine with RAYETTA BUCK, who owned a Dude Ranhh and a few oil wells in Texas. Mildred and the cast of her latest picture WThe Reptiles Snaren, had just returned from Rayetta's Dude Ranch where they had been on location for the past two weeks. I hope you enjoy this account as much as I enjoyed seeing all my old classmates and learning of their important positions in the world.
