Walter R. Olen Vice Principal Education is a means of seeking the best ways to continue and improve the ex- istence of mankind. Through thousands of years, many symbols of civilization have been transmitted, exemplifying the progress of society. A father ' s knowledge to hunt food, build a hut, and to protect his family was passed on to his son many civilizations ago. Discovering the uses of the fire, the wheel, and metals, aided in the production of food and clothing, transportation and protective weapons. The art forms and the printed word revolutionized the educative process bj providing a means of preserving society ' s way of life, enabling the next generation to gain this knowledge. Even though volumes upon volumes of information are available today through various modes of communication, the basic understanding of the word, the number. and the diagram are still paramount. Therefore, it becomes the task of the schools to make use of yesterday-- knowledge .md provide the most effective techniques to interpret and implement the word, the number, and the diagram.
