C' 4 gin emurmm Principal Ralph G. Chamberlin was born on October 6, 1887, on a farm in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He attended a rural school and later went to Michigan State University to obtain a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He began his teaching career at the Milwaukee School of Engineering before he went to Ironwood High School in Michigan as a mathematics teacher and coach. In March, 1915, Mr. Chamberlin became a mathematics teacher at Washington High School, and remained there until 1917, when he entered the field artillery. He returned to Washington High School in 1921 and in 1927 he was appointed vice-principal of North Division High School. Then, in 1934, he took over the job of principal of Rufus King High School. Mr. Chamberlin received the 1956 Caroline Bigelow-McGeoch award of the League of Women Voters of Milwaukee because of his work here and his activities in numerous educational organizations. Some of his many activities include being president of the Milwaukee High School Principals' Association, and a member of the Wisconsin Con- gress of Parents and Teachers, the Wisconsin Education Association, the National Education Association, and the Wisconsin White House committee. In addition, Mr. Chamberlin was a member of Tau Beta Pi, an honorary engineering fraternity, and of the Kappa Delta Pi and the Phi Delta Kappa fraternities. Besides that, he was also a Mason and vice-chairman of the board of Milwaukee Christian Center. On Ianuary 20, 1957, he died of a heart attack in his home. 10
