VV V 'XV M' Wil e,DdJJ ..., Vs, On October 5, the music department furnished its first enter- tainment of the year. The high school mixed chorus, consisting of thirty eight girls and eighteen boys, presented an operetta entitled Hearts and Blossoms, Dorothy Christiansen, Sylvia Philipp, Vonda Ahrens, Helen Christiansen, Dolores Moore, Dorothy Stiles, Francis Schmidt, Louis Moeller, Arlyn Lackore, Ronald Jorgensen, Doyle Newton, and Myron Newton were the twelve principal characters, A1 though it took a lot of hard.work to get the operetta ready to give, everyone had a lot of fun doing it Operetta was just completed when the girls glee club began work on a Christmas C.ntata, WCarols of Christmas,W which they presented December 18 Many girls were given a chance to show their singing ability for there were many solos, duets, trios,etc, in the Cantata, Girls partvclnating in one or more of these were Sylvia Philipp, Vonda Ahrens Dolores Moore, Waneta Lenz, Dorothy Christiansen, Marlys Uyborny, Mariella Deppe, Virginia Shanks, Barbara Lindley, Theresa Da ch, Helen Christiansen, Dorothy Stiles, Doris Jorgensen, Sharon Nelson Phyll s Schmidt, Vanda Msthison, Betty Jo Eliason, Phyllis Larson, Dorothy Ahrens, and velyn rolkerts Lois Ahrens accompanied the glee cLub for the contata On the same evening, the high school mixed chon1s, accompanied by Helen Chr1stiansen, sang two Christmas selections, Choruses from grades fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth also sang some Christmas songs They were ac companied by hrs Winemiller March 14 was the date chosen for the last vocal music concert of the year The program consisted of miscellaneous numbers from the high school mixed chorus and girls' glee club and choruses from fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grades, The girls trio and girls' sextet also sang at this program Although the mixed chorus gave its lest concert March lf-If, they sang WFa1rest Lord Jesusn and WThe doly City,U at baccalaureate exer- cise on May 18 The girls' glee club sang, WThe Lost Chordn and nThe Green Catnedral,u for commencement on May 21 This ended a very enjoyable year of vocal music The small groups 1n vocal music this year were, the girls' trio, consisting of soprano Sylvia Philipp, second soprano Helen Chrlstlansen, alto Dolo es Boore, and tle girls? sextet, wh ch was Sopranos Helen Christ ansen and Theresa Dasch altos Dolores hoore and Dorothy Stiles, Both groups were accompanied by Lo s Ahr ns, The hmghlight of these gzmlps for the year was go ng to .he s ate contest at V1rtone Both of +hem re e ved d v ous Tfs a the p e liminary contest at Charles C1 y and the gills' txmo rece fed a div lsion l at state conte t at Vinton, While the sercet ea n d s ll The most outstanding event in the vocal music depa nent th s veal was the fact that the trlo rated a divls on I at ne ta e contest We were very proud of the girls? trio and equally proud of the sextet .
