,eye Basketball had a good year at Rudd but baseball was a so so affair. The Rangers complled an IWDTSSSIVS 18 win 7 lost record in basketb ll w1th a flne rangy team, Trey were winners of the Twin R1ver Conference, Floyd County Tourney, and Sect1onal Tourney. Defensively the baseball team was qulte good, as the Rudd nine possessed an outstandlng hurler 1n nleckner. Against the Mason City Mohalks he P1tCh8d a no-hitter, yet lost l O, In both the fall and spring sect1onals, the hangers lost out in the openmng round, athletics in most schools run along in cycles. It is a task be up at the top year after year. Teams that are winning take lt a matter of course that they will contlnue, but a lanse of effort nractlcing w1ll u set the old apple cart. Probably the two char cter1st1cs whlch make for good athletics athlet1c teams are the ab111ty of the athletes and the w11ling ness to nractlce, xany indivlduals become good athletes wlth a falr amount of abil1ty because they work at the Job of becomlng ball olayers, and 1n so do1n they obta1n a world of enjoyment. for thrmlls not much, if anything, can beat the sensation of a well hit ball, a swlsher through the hoop in basketball, the feel of the ball in the glove after an opaosing batter's hit, or the touch of the basketball on a rebound These are a Dart of the games which we engoy and very few of the reasons that we do enjoy them. To anyone who would l1ke to be on a ball team, I would say nractlce a lot. Be w1ll1ng to out out but not exoect anything as a reward except the enjoyment of olay1ng the game, Get your school work done so that you and your team will not be penallzed by inelegr 1b1l1ty. Be a gentlemen off the fleld as on the f1eld, because the others have more resoect for your abllity as for you. Bytaking care of yourself phys1cally and mentally along with the above, you are addlng to your organization, wh1ch is like a cycle, As you help your team you ale develoo1ng the good of americans he good citizens. As you become good c1tizens you help all groups, which also includes yOU.I' team. anim Mira fjafefoaff Rudd Junior H1gh BasketbaIl!team had a successful season with a total of n1ne wins and four losses. The seventh and eighth grade team won three and had no defeats. The four losses were handed the Jun1or h1gh sasketball team by the bigger schools from Masan City and Charles City. The h1gh1ight of the Jun1or High season was the w1n.1ng of the Jun1or High Basketball Tournament, which was held at Nora SPTIDQSQ Leland and Larry Moore oaced the scorers 1n most of the games as they worked well under the basket. J1m Freverf and Ronald La Frentz led the scorlng 1n the eighth grade games. no 1 s . , A :xl ' . . 3. r . X . . . ' . -rf ' . 1 ,L ' , Q Y- .- ' Q .V 1 1 t ' ' 0 . A . as .
