J Grade I was asked to summarme their 1951 1952 school year, They thlnk measles, mumps, and chicken pox were some of the out standing events. In solte of the epidemics the ch1ldren made good progress and completed their work in a commendable manner. During the second grade the children learned to tell time, to recognize birds, and to write most of their work. The h1ghlight of our year's work has been the Safety Un1t wh1ch we oresented to the P T, A, 1n January. Third grade kent their large enrollment all yean of thirty- seven. Margaret Kuclo, a niece of Margaret Schoonmaker, was env rolled elght weeks during the f1rst semester. In November e studled a unzt on Indians 1n soc1al studies and art. for the P T, A. meet1ng that month we gave a short number on Indians for the program. Many friday afternoons were celebrated by olaying games and hav1ng treats. Halloween, Chrlstmas, and Easter were ob- served by part1es, at Christmas time we made glfts for our mothers. Although the fourth grade began the year with twenty-nine pupils. Sharon Kelly moved away leaving us with twentywe1ght Dur- 1ng February we studied a unit on the different flags our nation has had. 'hen the unit was completed we gave it for the P, T. A, A the year closed we still had folks coming down with the measles and mumps. Twenty-two DuU11S enrolled last fall in fifth grade. In March Barbara Nutter joined us, Probably the outstanding feature of the year was a train tip to Mason City in October. There the class vis- ited the round house, a hotel, the fmre stat1on, a supermarket, and a dime store where three goldf1sh were ourchased, An interest in handwork resulted in all twentyethree pup1ls learning to crochet and seven to knit. Twentyhnine puolls made up the enrollment of the sixth grade, We had one absentee enrollee, Dennis Tombleson. We oerformed for the P. , A. last fall when we gave our dramatic productlon of Carrying the Mail' when P. T. A. carmval came, we went into the prlnting business and painted all the s1gns, Twentyen1ne pupils enrolled in the seventh grade with Miss Murphy, the teacher. Gary Rathgen could not be w1th the grouo be- cause of 1llness. Janet Johnson moved awaJ in October. During the school year the seventh grade engoyed three parties, Hallowe'en, Christmas, and Valentine. There were elght in the sen1or band and eight in JuD10T band. The seventh grade subgects were mathematics, hlstory, spelllng, ngl1sh, health, geogranhy, oenmanship, and music. Standard Achlevement rests :ere given in January w1th good results, Nineteen eighth graders took their places in the high school assembly. for class off1cers they elected David Haugen, pres1dent Ronald La Frantz, v1ce presidentg Patsy Field, secretary, Sharon Wolkerts, treasurer. Mrs, Uinem1ller acted as the eighth grade class sponser. Several parties were held during the year.
