A i XX i I 3 l,,,,-.z. lei J Lf Again in the school year of 1951 and '52, the Rudd band found themselves with a bigger and better band. The school band was com- posed of eighty members, nine of which will be lost by graduation. As per tradition, Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings were devoted to band practice. Pep band and dance band held practice on Tuesday afternoon. Such or eniz tions as the P T A , Farm Bureau, and Culture Club enjoyed our small groups and soloists The Farmers Go-op meeting was entertained by the Pep b nd On the sixteenth and twenty third of March, Joint band concerts were held by Rudd and Nora Sprinvs bands Also during the year, the band journeyed to Rockford, Nora Sorings, and Floyd to present a concert. They in return nresented Rudd with a concert and other small roups of music. Several members of the band traveled to Charles City in the fall to attend the All State Band tryouts. From this roup, Helen Christiansen and Dorothy Ahrens were selected to go to Des uoines. The All-State Band was held on the eekend of Thanks ivingh Rudd came through pre-state contest at Charles City with flying honors. We received four firsts out of nine entrles rirst's re- ceived were Sylvia Philipn, Helen Christiansen, Janet Dieterichs, and woodwind quintet composed f Janet Dieterichs, Dorothy Christiansen, Dolores Moore, Sylvia PhilipPa and Phyllis Schmidt. Seconds were Doyle hevton, Dorothy St1les, Cecil Lackore, Evelyn Folkerts, flute trio composed of Janet Dieterichs, Evelyn Folkerts and Virginia Shanks and clarinet trio composed of Bonnie Olson, Kathyrn Maakestead, and Sharon Folkerts On May third. the band Jdurneyed to Sheffield to participate in the State Band Contest where they received a division I rating. preoaration of the band for state contest, Mr Carleton Stewlrt came to listen to the band and to offer helpful criticisms.
