I- H A were UP fii JQNEY Seotember 5, 1039, marks the day hen seven of today's fifteen seniors started school together Waneta, Dolores, Sylvia, Merrill, Ronald, Rex, and Lou1s John were the seven who were brought to f1rst grade by their parents in hone that they might meet today's goal graduat1on This class 'as carefully sunervised under Miss Waterhouse and correctly described by Sylvia who came home from school one day and said to her dad, WYou know, I think hiss Waterhouse has eyes on the back of her headln Our first new student was Arlyn Lackore, who Joined us in the second grade In the third and fourth grades Dona1d's mischievious 'aye and Loisls bashful, qulet ?? rays added variety to our class, making our class number ten from then on there was never a dull moment, as our teacher, A 1ss Armstrong, tried to teach us that V6 didnft know ouite everything yet, The highlight of that year was a t c hour olay m e nresented called, The Lost 'Jrince This was xorked on in all our snare time. The teachers even se ed on our costumes during classes In fourth grade Ar1yn?s knack for telling ,jokes started., adding humor to the cl ss. It as in the fifth grade that Donald was introduced to nthe little room,n In tnis little room there was a rubber hose The first day he came bac? from fthe little room' laugh1ng The second day he came back smiling The third day he came back sober, and the fourth day he came back crying He didn't go back for some time, When rr ncis ,joined us in fifth gr de a new fad was started, Dolores and rrancis had a crush on each other and were continually oessing notes This oroved much more interesting than our studies as each oerson read them as they flex back and forth uarlys and Vonda jomed us in sixth grade The first day Vonda was caught oassing a note to Sylvia, The note described a certain boy Vonda had chosen as her boyfriend Marlys is remembered as the girl with the long, curly hair, whose desk fell aoart at least once a day. In seventh grade Ronald journeyed back to us from country school, and Harold and Dorothy made their aooearance, That year is remembered very Hell because the new blond named Dorothy received a box of candy for Christmas and wouldn't ooen it to see who it vas from. Waneta came back to us from Floyd during our eighth year, making our present number-fifteen, We were all very scared of initiation as we entered high school, but were thoroughly disaopointed because--nothing haooened. During our high school years we were each able to give forth with some skill or another. Through teamwork and good soortsmanshio, we were able to develoo ourselves into ball teams, bands, and give olays, Our teams vent far, our music was rated highly, and each play we had was successful, 'e know that this would never have been possible without the heloful guidance and oatience of all our teachers. They have helped us make our school years both profitable and enjoyable. We wish to extend our thanks to the faculty for their help in making us better citizens. Once seated on a coral reef, the mer- maid unve1led to me the future of the Rudd Hlgh Class of '52 And this is what I saw- First came M rlys Uyborny, no excuse me, President Marlys Wyborny, chief executive of the Wst1onal Rory Calhoun Fan Club, Yea Marlee and Rory are great frlends nows The next scene showed Ronald Jorgensen managlng a gas sta tion, Jug had such a t1me keening his new car filled w1th gas that as a last resort he bought out the Standard O11 Company, Hmmmw-it seems that Vaneta Lenz has made qu1te a name for herself in the fleld of electronics. Why hundreds of times a day she flexes her muscles to eush on and off that s1gn on the hlghway east of Rudd. certainly is rlsing in this cruel world Harold runs the 9levat0r in the empire state building, of course he too has his nuns and downs.u Who came next? Why, lt was Louie Moellers I hardly recognized him 1n his black robe and snectacles, Louie always was a studious young soul in his hlgh school days, and now he is teaching Einstein his theory of relatlves. Then an 1nterest1ng scene came into focus. Sylvia Philipp was Josing with a bowling Lall 1n one hand and a pen for signing autographs in the others nSylU is a chamnion bowlers Little did I know when I bowled sith her that some day she was to become the world's ngutter balln chamnion. She hadn t missed a gutter once for a period of three years, Next was General Arlyn Lackore, Pud is the highest rank' ing officer in the army, He has charge of over a thousand K 9 dogs- The only statement I could get from the busy General was, WDown, boy down. Here comes Dorothy Christ1ansen, the blond oatrolwoman, blowing the siren on her little C?l yellow Cadillac convertible. KI wonder how she got the job, There are a few dented fenders. She has gust stonoed Donald Bortz for speedlng, Donald is the star dare-devil v1th Jimmy nynch. Don snec1alizes in driving on two wheels. The next scene revealed a large white building which looked like a barn. Imagine! In solte of the epidemics the ch1ldren made good progress and completed their work in a commendable manner. During the second grade the children learned to tell time, to recognize birds, and to write most of their work. The h1ghlight of our year's work has been the Safety Un1t wh1ch we oresented to the P T, A, 1n January. Third grade kent their large enrollment all yean of thirty- seven. Margaret Kuclo, a niece of Margaret Schoonmaker, was env rolled elght weeks during the f1rst semester. In November e studled a unzt on Indians 1n soc1al studies and art. for the P T, A. meet1ng that month we gave a short number on Indians for the program. Many friday afternoons were celebrated by olaying games and hav1ng treats. Halloween, Chrlstmas, and Easter were ob- served by part1es, at Christmas time we made glfts for our mothers. Although the fourth grade began the year with twenty-nine pupils. Sharon Kelly moved away leaving us with twentywe1ght Dur- 1ng February we studied a unit on the different flags our nation has had. 'hen the unit was completed we gave it for the P, T. A, A the year closed we still had folks coming down with the measles and mumps. Twenty-two DuU11S enrolled last fall in fifth grade. In March Barbara Nutter joined us, Probably the outstanding feature of the year was a train tip to Mason City in October. There the class vis- ited the round house, a hotel, the fmre stat1on, a supermarket, and a dime store where three goldf1sh were ourchased, An interest in handwork resulted in all twentyethree pup1ls learning to crochet and seven to knit. Twentyhnine puolls made up the enrollment of the sixth grade, We had one absentee enrollee, Dennis Tombleson. We oerformed for the P. , A. last fall when we gave our dramatic productlon of Carrying the Mail' when P. T. A. carmval came, we went into the prlnting business and painted all the s1gns, Twentyen1ne pupils enrolled in the seventh grade with Miss Murphy, the teacher. Gary Rathgen could not be w1th the grouo be- cause of 1llness. Janet Johnson moved awaJ in October. During the school year the seventh grade engoyed three parties, Hallowe'en, Christmas, and Valentine. There were elght in the sen1or band and eight in JuD10T band. The seventh grade subgects were mathematics, hlstory, spelllng, ngl1sh, health, geogranhy, oenmanship, and music. Standard Achlevement rests :ere given in January w1th good results, Nineteen eighth graders took their places in the high school assembly. for class off1cers they elected David Haugen, pres1dent Ronald La Frantz, v1ce presidentg Patsy Field, secretary, Sharon Wolkerts, treasurer. Mrs, Uinem1ller acted as the eighth grade class sponser. Several parties were held during the year. The Rangers complled an IWDTSSSIVS 18 win 7 lost record in basketb ll w1th a flne rangy team, Trey were winners of the Twin R1ver Conference, Floyd County Tourney, and Sect1onal Tourney. It is a task be up at the top year after year. Teams that are winning take lt a matter of course that they will contlnue, but a lanse of effort nractlcing w1ll u set the old apple cart. Probably the two char cter1st1cs whlch make for good athletics athlet1c teams are the ab111ty of the athletes and the w11ling ness to nractlce, xany indivlduals become good athletes wlth a falr amount of abil1ty because they work at the Job of becomlng ball olayers, and 1n so do1n they obta1n a world of enjoyment. for thrmlls not much, if anything, can beat the sensation of a well hit ball, a swlsher through the hoop in basketball, the feel of the ball in the glove after an opaosing batter's hit, or the touch of the basketball on a rebound These are a Dart of the games which we engoy and very few of the reasons that we do enjoy them. To anyone who would l1ke to be on a ball team, I would say nractlce a lot. Be w1ll1ng to out out but not exoect anything as a reward except the enjoyment of olay1ng the game, Get your school work done so that you and your team will not be penallzed by inelegr 1b1l1ty. Be a gentlemen off the fleld as on the f1eld, because the others have more resoect for your abllity as for you. Bytaking care of yourself phys1cally and mentally along with the above, you are addlng to your organization, wh1ch is like a cycle, As you help your team you ale develoo1ng the good of americans he good citizens. As you become good c1tizens you help all groups, which also includes yOU.I' team. anim Mira fjafefoaff Rudd Junior H1gh BasketbaIl!team had a successful season with a total of n1ne wins and four losses.
