Oth- ers hod o greor deol of fear. Why? Ir was rime for rhem ro opply oil of rheir skills ond knowl- edge ro rhe required srore proficiency resr. Srorisrics, in rhe TIME magazine, showed rhor almost 50% of oil sophomores passed oil of rhe proficiency resr required wirh 60% of rhe sru- denrs passing all of rhe difficuir reading porrions. Mr. Monaco said, Ir ' s something Calif ornio should have done a long rime ago. Ir ' s good to hove. I ' d like to see all California srudents taking the some State Proficiency Test instead of differ- enr disrricrs toking different tests. If o sophomore foils any port of the proficien- cy rest he must take o special doss to help him pass the following year. The rest is given over for onorher attempt. If by the time they ore a senior rhey hove nor passed they will not gra- duate from high school. Most sophomores soon become oware of rhe imporronce of passing rhese rests. | 1. ' 84 Class Pvings Finally Arrive vJlirrering gold and silver flashed around cam- pus on rhe hands of many 10rh graders. Sopho- mores hod finally received rheir cioss rings. A class ring symbolizes four years of high school and pride ond spirir for rhe doss of ' 84. Ir ' s something rhar can be treasured and kepr for- ever, commented Toni Gill. Rings come in various colors depending on the individual ' s birthstone or preference. The prices ranged from $90 to more than $200. They ' re very expensive but I reolly wont mine, therefore, I don ' t mind paying the price, reasoned Rodney Still. The class ring representative came to offer the sought after jewelry to sophomores and other upper classmen who had not received their rings yet. Students who missed the repre- sentotive hod to wait until he returned later in rhe year. They could also purchase a ring at a local jewelry srore if they chose. I ' m really excited about getting my doss ring, I ' ve woired for long rime, sold on eager Andy Lorn- bright. Many students gave class rings to their rrue love ro show that they were going steady. The guys could be seen wearing a small class ring on their little finger. The girls wore rings on a chain. B 1. Troci Inskeep tries to decide which ring she will order. 2.
