Returnees lack size, depth Coach Howard Kaidatzke, completed his first season at the Redbird helm, and his assistant, Tom DeWitt, molded eleven returnees from the ' 60 cam- paign into an offense. This offense showed plenty of spark, but, due to lack of size and depth, were unable to grab a single victory. Seniors lost via graduation from the gridiron squad are Max Hayden, Gary Alexander, quarterbacks; Jim Manship, center; Don Burt. Glen Elam, guards; Don Leslie, John Slack, Bill Pittenger, tackles; Paul Clas- pell, Don Terrell, Steve Trego, ends; Jerry Hunnicutt, Gene White, fullbacks; Bill Durnal, Garry Coleman, Don Barrett, Dennis Umminger, halfbacks. Don Barrett, the Redbird ' s choice as most valu- able player, was unanimously selected on the first team of the MVC All Conference Team. John Slack and Jerry Hunnicutt received honorable mention. Doug Piazza led the Royerton squad (and the county) in points with a total of 401. Consistent winning and three scattered losses left the cagemen holding a record of 18 wins and 3 losses at the end of the regular season. Losses were to Alexandria, Middletown, and Hagerstown. Mid-season was climaxed by winning the county tourna- ment. The Redbirds defeated Harri- son. Gaston, DeSoto, and Center on their way to the championship. The MVC title was the fourth consecutive triumph for the Redbirds.
