P--ev--ww. 2 'Elf THIS IS RCDYERTON S STUDENTS entered the doors of Royerton in August, they realized many changes had been made. The old assembly had been converted into several classrooms in order to create more space for the grow- ing student body. The need for longer class periods resulted in a new day with seven fifty-five minute periods. A new principal, Mr. Loyd G. Penrod, and eleven new teachers were introduced to the l700 Royertonites. One can hardly deny that the classroom and its functions are the nuclei of any school. Yet, it is evident that the many other activities ofa high school are the sustaining factors which strike a comparatively equal balance between the humdrum and the lively. The old adage All work and no play make Jack a dull boy, cannot be applied to Royerton High School. Experiences in extracurricular activities at R.H.S. provide endless opportunities for fun and friendship. The clubs, dances, and other school func- tions furnish outlets for our excess time and energy. Many students participate in the band, choir, glee clubs, and many other organizations. A broad athletic program teaches us the value of sportsmanship. Both boys and girls have opportunity for physical development through an indoor-outdoor sports schedule. These activities, combined in a well balanced manner, provide the student with rich experiences that will add to his mental and physical stature. Each class engages in various projects in addition to routine scholastic functions. Underclassmen are busy with money-making schemes for the eagerly awaited senior trip. By participating in these activities, pupils learn the arts of co-operation and self- adiustment.

Mrs. Werner and Mr. Harris take time out to catch up on the news. When Royerton's expanding student body crowded its way out of the high school assembly, the school officials began to realize the pressing demand for nine classrooms. The building received not only a new face lifting, but additional new school furniture was placed in several of the classrooms. Need for a larger typing room resulted in another new look. Two classrooms were merely rearranged and presto -this accommodation made available space for ten new typewriters. Thirty-two adiustable typing desks were placed in the room. A new principal's office was re-located in the iunior high building, one of the classrooms being partitioned for this purpose. A time-saving device, in the form ofa public address system, was installed for the new school year. Speakers were located throughout the building including the elemen- tary rooms, ianitors' rooms, cafeteria, and the gym. 4 The young and the young at heart all join in the fun of the iunior carnival. ...L.........L,,,,.,,, Y: What!
