former classmtte ot mme and she w ts xery liberal mg the door I knew lhe ambulance carruers Bull Burgess lt must be an emergency so I prepared nmmedxately to take oy er drly er who was Clifton Hesson droye up to the door and the streteher and umor DeHart carr1ed the serlously Injured patlents In and helped the others who eould walk rlhe mterne Charles Greer who w as on duty at thus late hour w ls called lmmedlately lwo ears bearlng erght people had collided wrth eaeh other and tue of the elfrht had been brought to the hosputtl for treatment After treatment was gnen eaeh of the persons thenr entranee reports had to be fllled out l proceeded to the room of one of the men and upon myestlgatlon found It to be I ordon Byrd Before thus time I had hardly realwed who he was lhxs surprlsed me yery mueh be cause Gordon had Ilways been such a careful dr1yer 'lhe other oeeupants of thus ear were Emma em XXxlson Helen Qharp and Bull Moore 'lhe flI'lXCI' of the other ear happened to be Dlck XIcCord Drucxlla Landls Ruth Tharp and Charles Gualkmbush were rxdmg wxth Duck Byrd was the most serxously myured of all the oeeupants He had to remaln lt the hos pltal but the others were released as soon as th e1r wounds were treated exeept for Helen qharp Qhe had to remaln an extra day for further treatment of her broken fmgernall Martha Mount was assxgned as specxal duty nurse for Xlr Bvrd thorough study of the case Dr Strgent ealled ln two other medlcal doctors Dr Robert Plner and Dr I'arl 'Nlelson and a well known psychxatrlst Dr Dorman XX alker After much debating Dr XX alker predicted the man mentally unbalanced but wlth a few weeks treatment the case could be cured he sald George Rowland anel Charles Foltz the hospltal yamtors learned of Byrds mlsfortune so during hls stay at the hospltal they ylslted htm quxte often They would ey en slxp hlm extrl food w1th the fme eo operatlon of Xferajean Edwards who was employed there as one of the cooks XX hen all hael recoyered and were back to good health Mr McCord took the case to court The date for the trul was set for one day ln june After much fummg and trettlng Dick Xl cCord put two layvyers Mr Paul Craw anel so she was summoned also After many days of debate the Jury fnnally reaehed I deelslon Although there were three men Richard Hann Bull Brown and xm Xlansfleld on the Jury they were so out num bered by was the womens decxsnon The jury proy ed defend mt not guxlty and the case w ts dlsmlssed So now a tew days liter Betty Harley and I fmd ourselyes gomg oyer the whole storv class ot 1947 Ctrom
