Pant Tvs enty ught Mr Farrell Coach M Brextsman G Hickey A Hammond M Kirkpatrick M Tracey D Jackson F Hoyer J OBrien Manager D Veley C Gursslin I Sparks M James M Hollinger H Droman K White J Manuel F Jackson E Scarborough R Schwan G1rls Basketball ORCED to rely entirely upon an lnexperlenced squad, whose prevlous var sity playing time totaled 48 mlnutes, Coach Farrell succeeded in moldmg a sextet that carried the Middleport colors well True, they didn t fimsh in first place, but the girls that comprised the squad had all the qualltles that go with champions However, with shaken confidence in themselves they were unable to hlt then' stride until mid season Lack of experience and confidence caused the Mlddleport High sextet to get started on the wrong foot as Barker took the season s opener 25 21 Thls early season loss threw the girls into a slump from which they fou d it hard to recover In a close contest the follovuing week the local lassies tasted defeat a second time 9 8 at the hands of Gasport This was followed by a 45 4 loss to Lyndonville 21 8 defeat by the Wilson girls and a 29 26 setback at Youngstown In the final game of the first half of the season the Purple and Lewiston 15 9 Finding that winning was more pleasint than losing the MHS sextet started a win ning streak of its oven On successive Fridays the girls trimmed Barker 25 20 edged out Gasport 14 13 in a photo finsh and decisioned Newfane 13 6 Then Lyndonville put an end to the march by handing out a 32 23 loss to the Middleport representatives Wewfane then turned the tables on the local maids as thev held back a typical MHS rally to win 15 12 Wilson and Youngstown ran 1nto considerable difficulty before downing the hometown forces 31 29 and 21 12 respectively The fi val chapter was written to girls basketball league competition as the locals trounced Levustone 20 14 in the finale The end of the season found the Middleport High School representatives heading the second division teams with five wins and nine losses This is by no means a disgrace and all the girls and their capable coach should have no reason to be ashamed of the team Ang one vnho expects a pennant winner from a team composed of freshmen lat least in experi ence! should try doing it some time The 1931 38 campaign marks the wind up of competition between schools in Niagara and Orleans counties and we are sure everyone is sorry to see it fade out of existence . , 3 .
