SENIORS FLIRTING WITH TIME, PASS IN REVIEW Soon otter we entered Royall we found that our life was not all work and no play as we threw ourselves Into various activities. As Freshmen our Disneyland Health Fair proved a huge success. Step number two on our upward climb was our Sophomore year. Our biggest, new ex- perience was a thing called Drivers Ed with Mr. Bowersox. The 47 minute driving excur- sions will be well remembered by many of us. Little did we know that our Junior year would be the most profitable. Our first-place Homecoming float, We'll Smoke 'Em went up in flames before anybody but the judges could see it. Our first-place skit Van De Hey's Island , insured us the spirit trophy. Our Prom was an unforgettable experience for various reasons!!! And then we entered step four, our Senior year; for some of us, the last one, for others merely another step forward towards the top. Ours was one of Royall's most memorable Homecomings. We now take time to think back over our four years to reminisce of good times, good friends and, of course, valuable education. Royall has done its part in making us strong citizens and as we step out Into the world, we hope to become a suc- cess. 12 Seniors Under Classmen 13 Albrecht, Kristi Austin, Rosemary Bauer. Miss Burgess and the grouchy janitor lock horns agatnllll Royaii High School may be a long way from Broadway but the students who were chosen tor this year's all- school-play did their best to make it a hit. The direc- tors selected a three-act comedy called Curtain Go- ing Up! and the actors spent almost eight weeks memorizing lines and attending rehearsals. Curtain Going Up! was a play about putting on a school play. This must have confused the audience at first but it made the play even more amusing. Lorry is finding that Andy can be very uncoopera five when he wants to. 50 All-School Play Miss Burgess, played by Peggy V.. had to listen to lots of unwanted advice. Just Between You and Me was the theme of the 1981 Homecoming at Roy all. The floats were centered around defeating the Necedah Cardi- nals. The freshmen got in the spirit of things by capturing the skit competition on Thursday evening. This was followed by the traditional crowning of King Ryan Kimball and Queen Kayela Green. Although some- what rainy, a huge bonfire continued to keep things roll- ing. Friday dawned cloudy but, didn't manage to dampen anyone's spirits the day of the parade. The juniors took the float competition with a sensa tional entry. Everyone enjoyed the dance on Saturday with music provided by Z104 from Madison. Even the school board members got in the act with a float ot their own. Homecoming 55 II The Health Fair has booths that give Information on how to care for your health. Each year the freshmen girls health class picks a theme to work around when building booths and this theme also gives them characters to introduce. This year's theme was “Tune In To Health and had characters made popular by T.V. pro- grams such as: Dukes of Hazzard, The Hulk, and The Muppets. All EKW first and second grad ers and Special-Education stu dents came to view the ex- travaganza and learn about good health. In addition to routines for the boys bas- ketball home games, they also performed at a num- ber of girts games. Miss Schulenburg and the girts worked exceptionally hard this year to raise money for some sorely needed new uniforms. Because their job is to be a source of pep and liveli- ness for the spectators, this year's cheerleaders practiced hard to im- prove their skills and per- fect new skills learned at camp. The cheerleaders did a variety of fund rais- ers to raise needed funds including bake sales and a Disco at Roy all. Miss ROW 1: D. Kranz, L. Milne. ROW 2: C. Gerke, C. The season during 1981 was one of transition for the Royall Runners. The Boys team, managed to field the five-man squad by utilizing the untested abilities of Scott Al- den, Steve Murray, and Ron Murray. Karen Parrish had the most loose balls, and Genise Prell had the best shooting percentages. Patti Miller and Kayela Green were co- captains for their team this year. Coach Kalodrich was proud of his team's improvement defensively and also of the fact that 13 freshmen were on the J.V. squad. Although the team was com- posed mainly of underclassmen, the inexperi- ence did not really hurt the team. There were many highlights during the season, however, the high placing at the McLellan Invitational really turned the season around. Conference Tournament was also a real rose for the girls when they placed second as a team. Mrs. Strelow and Miss Schulenburg were certainly competently assisted by Shell Koziara, Teri Diderrich, and Angie Beres, seniors who really set the momentum for the team. Next year should be a real turn around for the gymnastics program at Royall since the gymnasts gained much meet experience this year. With only 24 members on the squad, all the girls were able to compete at each and every meet. The Pantherettes will certainly be a team to be reckoned with in the future. AWARD WINNERS: A. Beres. While no Individuals were advanced to sectional competition, all boys showed a marked increase in ability, dedication, and sports- manship throughout the sea- son. With the experience ac- quired this year, the 1983 Boys Track Team will certainly be tough to beat. The girls were not to be out done by the boys. There were 5 seniors (all starting), 6 ju- niors, and 5 sophomores who saw action on the varsity team. Four of the batters had a seasonal batting average of over .300, Russ Waddell, Dan Wilson, Roger Brockman, and Bob Brown. Bob also set a new school record as a pitcher for winning eight games in a season. This broke the previous record by one game. We hope that In this PANTHER we have captured many of these memories. The preparation of this 1982 PAN THER was one of many long hours of hard work. The doubts that were faced in the beginning with the blank pages that looked us In the face have vanished and have be- come the reality of Royall High School as we have viewed it. There are many people who have had a part in making this book what it is. A special thank-you goes to Robert Fehrenbach and Febrenbach studios for their great pictures: to Miss Schulenburg who spent extra hours helping us stay ahead of the deadlines; to Inter- Collegiate Press, our publisher; to Mr. Anderson our principal who had faith in our abilities to get this book done on time. Although the staff worked very hard there are three other people who deserve special recognition, Carmen Macomber, Barb Weiland, and Kathy Bohnert. These three people spent endless extra hours making sure everything was done and corrections were made. With- out their help it would have been an Impossible task to complete this book. In closing, may I say, that the long hours have been long but well worth it. It was a great privilege for me to have been in charge of this book and to have had the opportu- nity to work with all the wonderful people associated with it. I hope all of you enjoy the book as much as I have enjoyed putting It together.
