Dave had the most team points and he broke the school record by five seconds, pinning his Onalaska man in eight seconds. The team co-captains were Joe Dutton and Terry Madden. Duane Roscovious had the most pins. The varsity squad consisted of two seniors, five juniors, three sophomores, and three freshmen. Coach DeLong commented about next year, Things will be look- ing better next year since we're only losing two seniors and at least half a dozen of our wrestlers are going to wrestling camp. This year we were lucky, we end- ed the the season with only one serious injury. Steve Buchholz suffered from a broken collar bone. 27 OFF TO A GOOD START As we started the season this year very slow, we struggled and struggled some more. But as the season came closer to an end, I saw we had improved, said Coach Preuss. Those of us who were spectators at the games feel the Freshmen are off to a good start , and will add a great deal to the basketball teams in the fu- ture years at Royall. The overall record was six wins and eight losses. 1 Bob Brown was high scorer for the season. 2 Lon Voss added his touch. Freshmen Basketball: Left to right, bottom; D. Wilson, J. Kocyan, B. ARE TINY MATTERS COMPARED WHAT LIES BEFORE US On Saturday, May 24, 1980, 91 Seniors walked the floors of Royall for possibly the last time. They listened to Senator William Proxmire speak on The Chal- lenge of America's Future . The voices of Dave Baisden, Sue Brandau, Dawn DeLong, Mike Hodulik, Barb Howard, Sandy Wilson, and Chip Balder sounded through the gym as they sang the class song, Cool Change . Streamers in the class colors of light blue, dark blue, and white decorated the gym, and the class flower was the red rose. There were many memories of years past and uncertain thoughts of years ahead, but the class motto says it all: What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us. TO WHAT TIES WITHIN US. Thank you for all, and 1 hope we can see us again like in five years. It would be fun! Some with little kids, wrinkles, white hair and things to remember. Those were the words of Fanny Everke, the 1980 AFS student at Royall. She was born on May 25, 1962, in Punta Arenas, Chile. (The name means Sandy Point in English.) While in the U.S., she lived with the Karl Hagen family of Elroy. The schools there are different from ours. The students must wear uniforms and a typical day starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 1:30 p.m. During the day, the students stay in one room while the teach- ers come to them. School is run Monday through Saturday and from March to December. While she was here, Fanny saw many new people, sports, and ways of living; experienced new challenges, sadness, happiness, etc. The first thing she wanted to do when she returned to Chile was to see all her family and friends. Then she wanted to get her li- cense. (You have to be 18 to get it.) She also planned to finish school and go to college. 1 Fanny and her sister , Kandy Hagen, spend AFS Weekend in Waunakee. 2 Dressed up for Homecoming, Fanny poses for a picture. 3 Dawn DeLong and her sister, Debbie, visit Lake Redstone with Fanny. 61 CLASS OF 81 Alderman, Dessa Amberg, Becky Ambort, Michael Anderson, Joseph Atteln, David Austin, John Benish, Theresa Benson, Mike Bigham, Valerie Bohnert, Paul Bowersox, Robert Brandau, Lori Brown, Brian Brown, Richard Bruha, Richard Buchholz, Richard Bunk, Sue Carpenter, Jane Cleaver, Teresa Cleven, Jill Coldren, Dennis Conley, Anne Creviston, Diana Crow, Donald Crow, Ronald 62 Dougherty, Glen Downing, Aaron Doyle Karen Dutton, Lynne Eckelberg, Kenny Eckelberg, Mark Fowler, Dennis Fowler, Lynn Gauden, Patricia Gernetzke, Mary Ann Griebel, Jillian Hagen, Stephen Haggerty, Keven Halverson, David Hastings, Jeffrey Hayden, Jon Henze, Kevin Henthorne, Diane Hollis, Sherry Hunter, Marlene Jensen, Richard Kibler, Steven Lawry, Victoria Lee, Michael Lewerenz, Dawn 1 Mike Riley makes use of the equipment in the typing room. 2 Renee Worden emerges from the tunnel at the Homecoming Dance. 3 A consumer's Math class. 63 Lewerenz, Dean Lueck, Robert McCracken, Lyle Miller, Bruce Miller, Kelly Miller, Kevin Miller, Robert Northcott, Kara Oliver, Laurie Pasch, Laurie Pasch, Lester Prechel, Diane Puent, Larry Reynolds, Peggy Riley, Margaret Riley, Michael Roscovius, Duane Sarbacher, Joanna Schmidt, Michelle Schmidt, Terry Schnurr, Bruce Schreier, Cheryl Schroeder, Jeffrey Speicher, Robert 64 Steffen, DeLinda Steven, Daniel Stokely, Jodie Sullivan, Dan Thorson, Michelle Tollackson, Alan Tyler, Lisa VanDeHey, Karl VonRuden, David Waege, Kevin Warner, LouAnn Weed, Douglas Wildes, Deborah Wilson, Jerry Witt, Sterling Woods, Carole Worden, Renee Wright, Cindy Yoakum, Lisa York, Debra Zindorf, Jerrie Zirk, Tammy Not pictured: Budde, Gary Dobbratz, Mark Nightengale, Bar- bara Rigney, Suzanne Winchell, Deanne 65 CLASS OF '82' Adams, Brett Albrecht, Carol Alden, Scott Bauer, Betty Benish, Margaret Beres, Angela Biermeier, Jill Bohnert, Kathryn Brand, Tammy Brekke, Carol Brock, Roger Brockman, Roger Bruce, Kurt Budde,Jodeen Carpenter, Victor Chapman, Darwin Clair, Lois Cox, Dawn 66 Crow, Nancy Dallmann, Dawn Davis, Lisa Diderrich, Teresa Doyle, Janis Ebbers, Andrew Eno, Wanda Enslow, Larry Fleming, David Free, Monty Geir, Scott Gerke, David Glumske, Karie Green, Kayela Haggerty, Erich Haney, Dale Handschy, Harry Hansen, Peter Harris, Annette Henthorne, Janet Hoppmann, Perry Hubred, Todd Huschka, Camilla Jensen, Dale 1 Jill Biermeier, Howard Olson, and Bruce Zmolek working hard in History class. 2 Monty Free ready to run. 1 A group of sophomores on the stage watching the morning events. 2 The 7th hour Drivers Ed class listens carefully to Mr. Bowersox. 67 Jensen, Terry Johnson, Kimberly Kimball, Craig Kimball, Ryan Koziara, Sheli Leis, Eric Leis, Mary Likely, Tamra Macomber, Carmen Madden, John McCracken, William Miller, Patricia Miskinis, Daniel Monroe, Deborah Nofsinger, Michael O'Brien, Tami O'Gara, Loriann Olson, Howard Palamaruk, Mari Parrish, John Pasch, Janet Popp, Michael Retzlaff, David Rice, William 68 Schmidt, Deneen Schmidt, Robin Schultz, Kevin Schumann, Christine Schumann, Dennis Simonson, Eric Speicher, Ronald Steinbrink, Russell Subera, Debra Switz, Laurie Thompson, Colleen Thornsen, Craig Thurow, Timothy Triebs, Kevin Vlasak, Davd Weiland, Barbara Wendt, Randy Wilde, Debra Class Officers: Bottom: Ryan Kimball, Treasurer, Top Left to Right: Chely Zimmerman, Vice President; Carmen Macomber, President. This year student council really got involved in our great school. They had a number of fund rais- ers which included selling carna- tions, a ham raffle at Christmas, and selling pennants and but- tons. When the pop machines were removed and everyone was really upset, the student council came to our rescue with the ice- cream machines. At the begin- ning of the year the halls were full of hall monitors, but the stu- dent council soon took care of that. We also had a very clean and respectful homecoming this year due to a hard working stu- dent council. They also sponsored a talent show at Christmas award- ing the winning class, (in this case the juniors) $15. The spirit trophy was also the student coun- cil's “baby . Their last accom- plishment was the bulletin board, posting all the school records. 2. Mike Riley, a helpful student council member. 1. May 6 was their Festival concert. May 10 was Music Festival Contest at New Lisbon. There acapella re- ceived a 2nd in class A, Mixed re- ceived a 2nd in class B, and Royallettes received a 1st in class A. To prepare for the play the members had to rebuild, recover, and repaint flats. The props for the play were donated by the members and other con- cerned students. Mr. Kueppers said that if all goes well the members of the school communi- ty can look forward to another successful performance of a three act play. 83 USHERETTES Usherettes are available to help at many school functions, and they hand out programs at all sports events. The Girls' Recreation Association has had a very fun packed and enjoyable year once again. This year the association had over 100 members, which caused some problems. One main problem was finding a date on which the most members could participate in the various activities. The girls also ran into money problems with travelling expenses. The activities this year included the annual Christmas shopping trip in mid-December to Madi- son. The girls also went rollerskating in February. An- other night was spent having a slumber party at the high school. 85 LETTER CLUB The Letter Club is a group of peo- ple composed of anyone who has won a varsity letter during their high school years. nisi row irom lert: Mr. vitcenaa, Advisor, f. All year long the girls were trying to sell popcorn to go towards a trip. This trip was an over night camp- ing trip. Also the main thing these girls did was during school a Parenting Program was held that was a great success. Hopeful- ly there will be more of these types of programs in the years to come. 1.
