Zweifel Football 1978-79 This year's football season was one to remember. The varsity team under the direction of Mr. Si- mecka, started out slow but built up momentum and went on to finish with a 4-5 record which tied them for 3rd place with Jeff West in the Jefferson League. The 78-79 team also beat the Valley Falls Dragons for the first time. The Panthers stopped a 2 year losing streak by beating J.C.N. and then going on to win their next 3 games. Four players made all league. They were Matt Bums named offen- sive guard and defensive nose guard, Mark Adame named defen- sive end, and Leslie Shuckahosee named all league back. Leslie also received an Honorable Mention in the 3A State team. Charlie Zweifel made 2nd team all league tackle. The performance of these people working with the rest of the team made it a football year to remem- ber. The Royal Valley JV team also put on a great performance this year with the help of Coach Wall, Coach Schaefer, and Coach Branda. The JV team finished with a 4-2-1-re- cord . Jackson Heights was the only team to beat the Panthers, even though they were given a run for their money. Coach Wall said this is the best year I've had since I've been coaching the JV. All the coaches feel this year's team has done well and will have a golden future.

Fresh Start The season began with a fresh start by gaining a new volleyball coach. Mr. Wayne Wahlmeier coached the girls to a win-loss re- cord of 2-6. This was the first year for a freshman volleyball team. They had a win-loss record of 3 - 1. The team consisted of 23 players who worked hard throughout the season. Two ofourR.V. players, J. Beat and P. Novak, made the Second Team All- League. n
