To H.P. Cawthorne, From the Graduatin Class - 1975 Not for him, unyielding Yorkshireman, The Pupil-Centred Curriculum And Progressive Education. The Open Classroom? - an abomination! 'The Pupil Decides' 'The Unstructured Group' - To such nonsense he would never stoop. With all these concepts he could not consort - He still hasn't read the Hall-Dennis Report! It was the rule or the ruler, and, l'll box your ears. Thus he gave pupils over the years Love clothed in discipline, and so they discerning That hard work nurtures the value of learning. FRO THE HEADMASTER'S STUDY r- mm, N Another school year is drawing quickly to a close, and with it must come a time for reflection. Some of you have completed one year at St. George's: others ten or eleven years. Some of you have set high academic standards. others have excelled in gamesL while others have made a strong contribution in the choir. Many of you cannot be classified easily in any of these three categories. It is about this group that I wish to refer. Someone once said that the Lord must have admired the average student because He made so many of them At last year's Closing and Prize Giving. Bishop Wilkinson spoke generously to the Prize Winners, but it was about those who did not win prizes that he addressed his warm thoughts. He stated that the world owed much to the average person The early settlers in Canada were spoken of as being good sound stock - men and women of integrity and dedication. As I review the events of the last thirty weeks in my desk calendar. I note that such highlights as the United Appeal Campaign, the Guild activities. the St. George's College As- sociation endeavours were all spear-headed by people who toiled unselfishly for the good of others. You have often heard me speak of the importance of developing a sound character both in and out of the classroom. Nobility of character is not a matter of intelligence, efficiency or money. lt is a personal thing. It belongs to the individual and cannot be bought, inherited, borrowed, or sold During the last eleven years much effort has been expended to develop in you sound habits of character As you read through the pages of this vol- ume you may appreciate the efforts of the boys who strove unselfishly for their school. My grateful thanks are here offered to the Georgian staff for another iob well done Your friend 84 Headmaster J. L. Wright
