PROPHECY 1947 On our skxp day the members of the seruor class were eatxng dmner nn httle Cpanxsh resturant when Madame Zonga wanted to tell our fortunes We declded xt would be mce to know what was ln store for the future She started by readxng the tea leaves 1n Howard s cup but we knew as well as she what he would be doing although we dldn t know he would be so success ful as to have a large a1r fxeld of h1s own We all wxsh hun Happy Landxngs after each take off For Jackze she saw a very successful career as prlvate secretary for the manager of the Quxncy Lmfe Insurance Company nn Chxcago In the leaves ID Bob s cup she found a large chlcken ranch ln Callforma Bob s Chxcken Coop' Having had a good start ln that work whlle still 1n hxgh school we were glad to know that he would keep on and reahze has ambition and help provxde a chxcken for every pot For Kenneth she saw a large whlte shxp v1th flags flymg and ocean trzps to dlstant lands Sure we had heard Kenneth say he was gozng to Jom the navy She did not say anything about a happy fanuly for hxm but since a sailor IS supposed to have a girl ln every port I guess he w1ll do all rlght We were not surprlsed when she told us that Evelyn would 1n t1me become Superxntendent of Nurses ln one of the hospxtals ln Rochester for Evelyn had mentloned that she would l1ke to take nur smg after her graduatxon The f1rst few years of Harold s future looked dark for they showed more toll and study ln college at Axnes where he would take up agrlculture but after he learns all about farmmg ln books he will come back and be a dlrt farmer m good old Clay County where we have the blackest d1rt 1n the world The leaves ln Dorothy s cup showed that after fxmshmg a course 1n beauty culture she would open a shop of her own known as Dot s Beauty Salon where she would have a very good bus1ness Gladyce will be some lucky man s w1fe Madame Zonga samd and w1ll l1ve 1n a cozy httle cottage with her husband four daughters and one son Che w1ll devote her l1fe toward makmg xt a home the place where we are treated the best and grumble the most Ronald we found IS goxng to stay rlght here xn Royal the Jumor partner of the flrm Walstrom and Walstrom l..1ve Stock Buyers There was a blond ln the plcture w1th Ronn1e also but whxch blond was more than even Madame Zonga could say The leaves held a promrsxng future for V1rg1l as an expert chef an a large hotel where he w1ll make appetites s1t up and say M m m We remember h1s saymg ln hlgh school that he would lmked to have taken Home Ec If you happen to meet hlm maybe he w1ll glve you some of h1s famous reclpes , B L' 0 . . , I . . ' ll ll ' ' I , . . - CLASS HISTORY of 1947 In the fall of 1935 on September Z mne lzttle boys and g1rls experlenced then' fu-st day of school they we e Howard Anderson Bentley DeMars Arhe Henry Alvm Kollmann .Tamce Berberxch Maman Jespersen Shxrley Nelson Lols Phelps and Gladyce Toft They were greeted at the door by Miss Lottle Cllfton our fxr st and second grade teacher That mght after school when Gladyce Toft returned home her mother asked her what she had learned Gladyce replxed Not very much I guess I have to go back agam tomorrow Our second year found us a httle braver because we knew most of the do s and don ts It seemed good to go back to play wzth our classmates after the suxn mer vacatlon We lost one student and .Tacquehne Bailey jomed us As we started the thxrd year we found that more of our time was devoted to studying and less tlme for playmg Some of the k1ds stxll tried to mix play wzth work but found out xt dxdn t mxx very well after bemg called down by Mass Ann Ball our tlnrd grade teacher We were joxned by Kenneth Duncan Alfred Espey and Martha Espey Shzrley Nelson moved to West S1de Iowa We moved from the old school to the new school house 1n our fourth year We were Jomed by Ronald Walstrom the fxrst semester and by Leonard Bamsey the second semester Arlze Henry moved to Mxlford We were sull under the supervlsxon of Mlss Ann Ball One day M1ss Ball asked Kenneth Duncan why he had such a poor arzthmetxc paper and Kenneth replxed Well Dad dxdn t have tlme to do them for me so I copxed them off of J'acquel1ne's paper At the begmmng of the flfth year we were jozned by Donald Andrie Eleanor Crowl and Chrxstian Toft Leonard Bamsey moved away at the end of the flrst semester Mass Irene Kracht was our new teacher We enjoyed the many holiday parties especially May Basket Day when we could kzss the girls lf we could catch them We were very dellghted to have Mlss Kracht back during our sixth year It seemed as though we were working harder every year but we all enjoyed bezng together We were joxned by Harold Chrxstensen and we lost no one from our class We were now at the end of the half way mark on our educational career In our seventh year we were a lxttle bit confused because our room was com b1ned wxth the hlgh school and we had a number of teachers They were Mr Moe, Mrs Monahan Mr Ferguson and Mr Johnson We had two new pupils Richard Bryant moving from Hartley and Dons Shultze coming from Nebraska the second semester In lxterature class Mrs Monahan asked Harold Christensen what un aware meant and Harold rephed Unaware xs what you put on fzrst and take off last Starting our last year of elementary school we were moved back to our separate room with M1ss Grace Franks Mrs Monahan and Mlss Stanzel our teachers Chrxstmn Toft dropped out and Dons Schultze moved at the end of the flrst semester We had an addxtlon of only one student Vxrgxl Morrow After recemvlng our dlploma on graduat1on day we began looklng forward to the next fall when we would enter hlgh school D 'I' a . 1 . , , I 1 1 - 1 p 1 . , . - n ll - ll , , , - 0 I n - . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . - . After three months of vacatxon we started our fn-st year of hlgh school Four new students came ln from the country they were Bob Franker Dallas Johnson Dorothy Englert, and Betty Moeller During the prevlous surnmer Alvin Kollmann moved to St Paul and Bently DeMars moved to Charles Cxty Th1s year many of the boys and gxrls entered extra lCt1V1t1eS such as baseball basketball band and glee club We now started to have class partles under the sponsorshlp of Mrs McCarty and attneded varxous school dances We had a new faculty consxstmg of Mr Moe Nhss Stanzel and Mrs McCarty Mrs McCarty was repleaced by Mrs Rave the second semester We gave a one act play durxng our Freshrnan year narned Ada Gives Fxrst Aid One afternoon ln Enghsh class the teacher told Bob Franker to correct th1s sentence Girls as naturally more beautlful than boys Bob made the correction this Girls IS artxfxcally more beautiful than boys During the followlng surnrner Dallas Johnson moved to Everly but at the begmmng of our sophomore year Evelyn Olson and Rxchard Freeburg Joined the class We had a whole new faculty conslstlng of Mr Rmehardt Mxss Gr eve and Mrs Rector Under the sponsorshzp of M1ss Gneve we presented three one act plays entitled Eddzle Greets a Hero Orville s B13 Date and Paul Loses the Ratzon Books ' Rlchard Freeburg moved to Spencer ID March sented a three act play entitled Almost Eighteen ' We held our Juxuor Semor Banquet ln the Royal Audxtorlum and I thxnk It is safe to say that xt was a b1g success Mrs Rector was our sponsor Mr Rmehardt moved away and was re placed by Mr McK1nley Our studmes were sornewhat easier tlus year because of the Introduction of vlsual education into our school Richard Bryant moved to Greenv1l1e at the end of the year At last we are semors Our class numbers eleven after havzng Maman Jes persen drop out at the end of the first semester We had two more teachers th1s year Mr McK1nley and M1ss Grieve were back agaln xn addxuon to Mrs Moss engren Mr Lee and Mr Thompson our coach Our class sponsor was Mr McKinley We are very proud of the boys basketball team which won the sectxonal tournament and went to the dxstrlct We publlshed a school annual called lndxan Memorles We presented a three act play tltled That Perkms Fanuly Of the nlne students who started school at Royal only three attended the full twelve years They are Jamce Berberlch Gladyce Toft and Howard Anderson BAND The band for the year was under the dxrectxon of Mr Voelker Howard Anderson Bass Dxck Wahl Drurn Lowell Krlens Trurnpet Mary Ann Kruse Clanent Gerald Schultz Bar1tone Robert Blaue Drurn Robert Goyette Saxaphone Lorna Baxley Bass Druxn Anna Mane Lundbeck Cornet .
