PERISCOPE Class of 1958 Royal Centre High School Royal Centre, Indiana The Senior Class of Royal Centre High School feels proud to dedicate this 1957-58 Periscope to Mr. Carroll Sparks. His work and services have remained in the hearts and minds of many people over the past years. This is best ex- pressed by the quotation, No bubble is so iridescent or floats longer than that blown by the successful teacher. 2 Mr. Lester M. Parker is the super- vising principal at Royal Centre High School and is an excellent person to have as head of our school. He received a B.S. degree at Oakland City College and later attended Butler University. His background of education also in- cludes Purdue University, Indiana University, and Vincennes Uni- versity. Mr. Parker is now ful- filling his ninth year as the prin- cipal at Royal Centre High School. Administration This is Mrs. Betty Hale's first year as secretary to Mr. Parker. She is an essential part of the office and saves Mr. Parker many steps in his daily routine around school. Mrs. Hale is well liked by all the students be- cause of her personality and co- operation. A record number of Sunshine Girls is pictured above with their sponsor, Mrs. Key. Sunshine Society The big event of the season, the Sweethearts' Ball, was sponsored by the Sunshine Society. They also sold candy and sponsored the annual Riley Fund drive. The proceeds of the drive go to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis. The group made Christmas stockings to decorate the doors of local hospitals. Also, each month the entire group selected a Sun- shine Girl of the Month. This girl wore a pearl necklace which was donated by Mrs. Key. The of- ficers are D. Hastings, Rec. Sect., B. Dodt, Treas., S. DePoy, Cor. Sect., G. Shafer, V. Pres., and V. Bible, Pres. 36 The Student Council is shown at a meeting in the home economics room of R.C.H.S. This year the group decorated the halls and a tree for the Yule Season. In addi- tion, they sponsored sock hops after basketball games and a lovely Christmas Dance. The Senior English Society is shown conduction a meeting with the sponsor, Miss Tincher, supervising. The members entertained the stu- dent body at Christmas with a play- let entitled Geraldine and the White Robe. Members of the National Honor Society are pictured with their sponsor, Miss Tincher. This year, N.H.S. provided a speaker, Big Rich, to entertain the students. They also sold Bulldog sweatshirts as a project. 37 The newly formed Latin Club, formally named La- tina Societas, presented a playlet for members and their guests. The play followed a delicious Roman banguet. Mrs. Smith is the sponsor of the new or- ganization. Members of the FFA and their sponsor, Mr. Farley, are pictured in the agriculture room. The president, Gene Barr, is presiding over the meeting. The Projection Club handles the showing of films during the school year. Mr. Tansey, the sponsor, is shown explaining how the projector is run to the boys of the club. 38 Members of the Judging Teams participated in several judging events under the direction of Mr. Farley. Included in these events were live- stock, vegetable, dairy, and entomology judg- ing. The Pep Club is pictured here in formation. Their superior show of sportsman- ship, cheering, and origin- ality won them the mega- phone given as an award each year at the Cass County Tourney. The club sponsor is Mrs. Hiatt. Here are the librarians who care for our library. This year Mrs. Key taught a class to educate them in the care of books and library. The class is another of the many new features added dur- ing the past school year.
