B Team The B team's main purpose is to give the players more experience before advancing to the varsity squad. Some of these B team players became varsity members before the season ended. Because there was no freshman schedule, more freshman than usual dressed out for the B team games. The B team's record indicates the Bulldogs will have some tough teams in coming years, for they com- pleted the 1956-57 basketball season with a mark well over .500. 18 FIRST ROW; J. Hale, K. Lucas. Barr, D. Haynes. A Team The 1956-57 Bulldog team made an outstanding showing and thrilled many fans. The Bulldogs, under the direction of Coach Russ Brown, won the Cass County Tourney by defeating four of the counties toughest teams. They lost only one game prior to the county tourney which was to Washington Township. The Bull- dogs avenged that loss by downing the Hatchets one point in the county tourney. Our team also won the Midwest Conference basketball title for the first time. Since the varsity squad was composed of underclass- men, they can anticipate a better 1957-58 season with plenty of height and experience. The scoring for the season was as follows: 67 Meadaryville 44 COUNTY TOURNEY 65 Tipton Twp. 50 R.C. 62 Twelve Mile 38 63 Lucerne 32 60 Galveston 41 83 Richland Centre 49 50 Washington Twp. 49 73 Brookston 39 60 Tipton Twp. 58 88 Flora 63 48 Washington Twp. 65 59 Camden 46 57 Fulton 37 60 Monon 55 88 Kentland 45 75 Wolcott 30 82 Monticello 55 Star City 78 Francesville 63 Eastern 81 Young America 20 Brook 19 Mr. Brown Compliments Kenny Ronnie Cass County changed from softball to baseball for the 1956 summer activities. The teams used the round- robin schedule to determine the county baseball champs. Russ Brown and his Bulldogs excelled the .500 mark by winning 6 and losing 4. They can look forward to a better year in 1957 since all of the boys were underclassmen. The scoring for the '56 baseball season was as follows: 4 Concerse 5 2 Washington Township 4 4 Francesville 14 10 New Waverly 7 5 Lucerne 2 1 Monon 0 29 Young America 2 3 Twelve Mile 4 9 Camden 6 6 Galveston 5 FIRST ROW: W. Royal Center's cross country runners gained top honors in the first Cass County cross country meet. Letter winners were: Darrell Pufahl and Jerry Berkshire. Bill Newcomb, Dan Bailey, Gene Barr, and Harry Benson were repeat lettermen. Several of these musical students entered the solo andthe ensemble contests, both district and state. The band marched in four parades--the State Fair, Royal Center Fair, Veterans' Day Parade, and the United Funds Parade. The chorus helped make the PTA Christmas program possible by providing special music. Also they developed a sextet which became active in both the school and the com- munity. The band and chorus participated in the County Music Festival at Logansport. Darlene Pufahl served as the drum majorette and she was assisted by Lynne Webster, Dixie M us all, Darrell Dolph, Mary June Zeek, and Jill Snider. They also checked out encyclopedias, reference books, and magazines to aid you with your school work. These volunteers were a pleasant addition to our busy library. 34 Student Council This organization gives our students the opportunity to have a voice in governing themselves. Each class is represented by one boy and one girl who are elected along with the class officers to serve on the council for one year. Beside their part in self-government, the student council sponsored several other projects. This year they made possible the purchase of a record player for the school. The election of cheerleaders and the initiation of freshmen students were conducted by the council. The Christmas decorations in our halls were arranged through the stu- dent council.
