DEDICATION We, the senior class of 19?1, wish to dedi- cate this yearbook to those -who, we feel, have aided us most in our twelve years of school. Throughout our school days they have strug- gled with us in the hopes that we may be pre- pared to become better citizens. They have sacrificed more than anyone else in order that we may have the privilege of reaching our ob- jective---graduation. Our achievement will be a goal reached by them as well as by us. We realize the many hardships which they endured, and in this humble way we wish to show our appreciation by dedicating this yearbook to our parents. 3 ADMINISTRATION MR. A Hunting We Will Go. Hunting for what? Why for knowledge of course I For there were so many things we wanted to know. Now don't think we started out unarmed, for we were each equipped with the following weapons upon which we could faithfully depend: first, a strong healthy body, embodying the five senses which are indispensable; second, two good arms with five fingers each to record with pen or pencil the results of our find from day to day; third, one good brain, composed of cell upon cell in which we stored our catch from day to day. And one queer thing about this third weapon, we have found that through the twelve long years not one of us has been able to fill it to its capacity. Our first hunting ground was in Royal Center grade school and there we found game so plentiful that nine of us have found it unnecessary to search in fields afar. These nine are, Don Berkshire, Joretta Dilts, Ralph Layer, Norman Kesling, Florence Coleman, Lois Schmaltz, Dick Mansfield, Junior Smith and Bill Barr. There were two, Joanie Beckley and Betty Brant, that wandered into strange hunting grounds but came back to rejoin us in later years. ;e spent eight years in our first field and were joined along the way by huntsmen from V hite County and from other places. '.7e spent our days laboring hard, taking time out only for Christmas programs and selling magazines in our eighth year to earn money for a record player which we left for our followers to enjoy after we ventured across road 16 to the high school building. In September 19U7, we entered Royal Center High School; we were joined by huntsmen from Lake Cicott, and other schools. ’Then all the green freshmen were acquainted, we were soon initiated by the seniors. After we recovered from our initiation we chose our class colors, blue and white, and a red rose for our flower. The next year we were joined by huntsmen from Noble Township and we had the largest class in high school. V e sleeted our class rings, which made us very happy. By the time we became jolly juniors we were becoming real huntsmen. V e pre- sented the play Grandad Steps Out . We sponsored a Sweetheart dance, sold concessions at ball games and during lunch hours to fatten our treasury, 7 e honored the senior class of '30, with a beautiful prom, the setting being a Dutch Garden . In September, 1930, we entered the doors of Royal Center High School for the last time we hoped. This year we initiated the freshmen in October. V e had a chili supper in November and a bake sale in February. On April 6th we pre- sented the senior play. V e are looking forward to having a real hunting trip in the middle of April, when we will take our senior trip. Our last big event will be our Commencement exercises. At that time Professor Parker will hand each of us our diploma, which will entitle us to enter fields of higher education in search of more knowledge. V hatever course we choose to follow may it be the most profitable for each of us. Agnes Smith--Gene Grassmeyer's ability to talk. 61 j ropliecy In the year of ’71 while going to Paris for our vacation, we noticed a pass- enger whom we thought we recognized. On closer observation we found it to be Betty Brant, one of the seniors of 51. Betty, an interior decorator, was go- ing to Paris to redecorate the home of the president. We inquired about the other seniors of ‘51 and learned Roy Tribbett is now a bookkeeper at the White House. Sue Harrison married Bill Barr, a former senior, after she graduated from bus- iness college. They now have three red-headed girls. Doyne Dawson, who always loved policemen, is the chief-of-police of Royal Cen- ter while the former Pam 7 atts, a senior of '$l,is the chief's contented wife. We wish Nina McCombs luck in her career of singing. She is nearing the top as a vocalist. Charles James, who graduated from Indiana University, is now one of their most outstanding, but aosent-minded professors. It keeps Rosabelle very busy keep- ing up with the other professors' wives in social events. Donna Stilwell is our ambassador to Spain. Her Spanish paid off. Lois Schmaltz, who followed in the footsteps of her girlfriend, now is a catcher on the Girl's Softball Team of New York. 62 Florence Coleman, who graduated from Indiana University, now teaches school at Royal Center. She is still unmarried. Virgil Hoch,who always fought with Don Layne in his spare time,is now a prize- fighter and Don is his Manager. Phyllis Roth is an efficient sectetary for a business firm in Chicago. She types and does odd jobs. Joanie Beckley, after working with her uncle for three years when she finished high school, is now the editor of the Pharos Tribune. Carol Downey's dream came true. She married her sailor, Jim, and they reside on a farm outside of Monticello. Norman Kesling and Y alter Smith are still running around single. Norman has a dairy farm, and waiter has a creamery, so they have a split business. Robert Baade is a farmer in Noble TVrp. Ralph Layer is in the trucking business. He is still the same old Ralph, still bashful, and unmarried. Ivan Leahy is a cotton farmer. He is the proud owner of a very large plan- tation in the south. Helen Robertson married Tom Bolinger after she graduated from High School. They reside on a farm in Jefferson Twp. Maurice Nice and Jane Love are married and have two boys and two girls who go to Royal Center. Maurice is a farmer, and he and his family reside in Noble Twp. Joretta Dilts married a history teacher, because of her good times in govern- ment and history classes. They reside near Muncie, so the children are near college. V.'illadean Sweeney is a very efficient secretary for Granny Stuart. She almost has him broke of the habit of misplacing things of importance. Fred Wolf is still just fooling around. He doesn't like any one woman, so as of now he is still single. Jean Hardy graduated from Ball State, and is now employed at the hospital in Indianapolis. After arriving in Paris, we bade Betty good-bye and continued on our journey.
