This year we finally made it, we became seniors! Our fourth year here at Ketcham seemed different since split sessions were no longer in operation. The halls seemed much larger but the trafiic jam had not left us. We kicked oil' the year with our homecoming float. There was a tremendous amount of work involved but -through the efforts of an unselfish few, things went smoothly. Our next project was the annual senior play. The Class of '78 produced The Boyfriend , which was a big success. This was our first fundraiser but by no means our last. We initiated another first by selling linen calendars. This, coupled with the yearly valentine-o-grams gave our treasury a big boost. The second annual Gong Show was an experience for us all. There were some sticky spots but we came through rather well. The event of the year was definitely the prom. It was the culmination of everything we had worked for. It was held at Meadowbrook Lodge and lived up to all of our expectations. It seems as though an eternity has passed since a bunch of green teenagers ventured into a very scary, very challenging place called R.C. Ketcham. But throughout the past four years every individual has risen to this challenge in his or her own unique way. For every member of the class of '78, there will hopefully be a special event or person that makes R. C. K. an unforgettable experience. We hope that through our years together, we have somehow moved you and helped you to grow. There can of course, be only one Class of '78 in the history of Ketcham, We think that there is undeniable pride in the distinction. We are and always will be the Class of '78. Our diversified student body has shared the toils of these high school years. With such vigor and coinage there have been many an individual to aid our class executing those tasksfrequired during our years at Ketcham. Our monetary and social success far outweigh any mishaps we encountered. We can all take credit for our accomplishments as we reflect upon our times together. We were the first of the freshman classes to attend Ketcham on a split session program. We occupied the New Wing in seclusion, where we were expected to be productive in our studies and unaffected by older influences , it took three classes to make it seem plausible that freshman were confined and much less adjusted when forced out of the influence of older, more mature students. At any rate, our freshman class was at a poor disadvantage. We had no funds to begin with since we were not able to carry out the usual magazine drives as most classes did while in Junior High. So as the Class of 1977 became known as the richest class, we were in many respects known as the poorest. With no colateral it was rough getting started. We had to rely on bake sales for any fund raising. We did manage to secure over S100 that first year through bake sales and by selling buttons printed as Ketchan,' Indians instead of Ketcham Indians. They may very well be a collectors item someday, for they are very rare. Our sophomore year was entirely more productive. We were released from the New Wing and began to feel as though we were now in high school. We got to get up at 6:00 am and no longer had to arrive home from school at dark. With this fresh new incentive our sophomore year made up for our freshman year. We sold Funbars and profited over S600. Dollars for scholars was set up as a fundraiser for the four classes, and naturally the Class of '78 sold the Most. Christmas time brought a few bake sales. We are a class who plays it safe. Ketcham had not seen a normal dance for sometime and as sophomores we brought it upon ourselves to feature two in one year averaging profits of S300 each. Our carwash was a laugh and showed great fellowship, an accomplishment we deem more than any other. Leave it to us to come up with innovative ideas. We were the first class to have a Class Ring Raffle, on which we made 5100. Our junior year proved even more active than the previous ones. Predictions for the success of this year were gloomy, as we suffered the apathy of so many taxpayers who couldn't see paying for proms and other stuff kids really don't need in school. As we all know however, we financed our own proms and we weren't exactly swimming in monetary funds at the end of our sophomore year! Experience showed us that bake sales built up our colateral for larger projects with no risk insurance. That year we sold tootsie rolls by the dozens. But by far the Basketball Concession Stand was our biggest asset. Through the help of some very dilligent workers, we cleared well over S1000 by the end of the season. Many students became involved as we worked hard and long for the junior prom. Our prom was well organized but many last minute details were still unfinished as of 8:00 pm March 26. Our theme was Searchin' so long and thanks to the dedication of a few workers and teachers fwho weren't really supposed to helpj we pulled it off. The band was a minor disappointment, but this was our lst small mistake . Wrap up Senior year guys! l A
