we, the class of '77 are a vast variety of individuals sharing a multitude of experiences. many of us have worked long hard hours and the class as a whole has reaped the rewards. accomplishments have been witnessed regularly although downfalls have also been occasionally seen. our freshmen year brought us great fame. after a year of considerable effort and toil we had raised S2200., thus giving us the title of the richest freshman class ever at roy c. ketcham high school and a reputation for diligent workers. the largest attribute to the great wealth of that year was rex , a multi-purpose soap which along with the unyielding drive possessed by the members of our class, saw to our success, other fund raising activities included the selling of class of '77 buttons and mother's day carnations, the latter a tradition which remained with us for all our years here. sophomore year, though not as successful as our previous one financially, was just as flourishing in another way. it was in this year that the class of '77 senate was initiated. it was an effort to bring about better communications between class officers and the class. it was composed of representa- tives from each of the social studies classes and headed by the vice president of the class and the president protempore, who presided in the absence of the vice president. there was also the secre- tary of the senate whose duty it was to take the minutes of all meetings. our fund raising that year was limited, we had previously purchased 250 hats from the class of '74 and these along with helium balloons were sold at all football games. this along with mother's day carnations were the only bread-earning events of the year. with two years of fruitful experiences behind us we were ready for a most active junior year. this year our class launched another first: we were the first class ever in r.c.k. to run the entire class election by ourselves. we planned and set up all the assemblies, ran the nominations and the actual election, and counted the ballots. this experience helped us not only further our knowledge of election procedure, but it also developed our sense of responsibility. our year was once again filled with hats, balloons, and mother's day carnations, but this was only the start. the school under the sponsorship of our class put on a concertfeaturing hombre . this did not turn out to be as successful as we had hoped but it proved to be an unforgetable experience. also early that year we purchased a mirage 10 speed bicycle which was raffled off in december. as juniors it was our year to take charge of the basketball concession stand. with the labor of many class members it was a great accomplishment. besides the financial success it helped all of us who were involved to grow some. we dealt with people in a way in which we never had before, both as a buyer and a seller. the profit which was taken in went towards prom decorations. the prom was the glamorous affair of the year, but behind this beauty there were many long hours and many unthanked workers whom we never would have been able to do without. the theme was colour my world by chicago. the place was the gymnasium, which was another first for the class of '77. this proved to be an excellent arrange- ment because we had much more space and we were able to accomodate many more people than if it had taken place in the cafeteria as in previous years. our last activity as juniors was the annual garage sale. although we did secure a profit the event was not as successful as past years. it was with much gratitude for our luck and prosperity that we ended that year. our senior year had a very shaky start. with the defeat of the budget and no funds available for school activities, which included advisors, insurance and after-school transportation, we were not sure how much if anything we would be able to accomplish. never the less we proceeded with caution. we planned our homecoming float and we were ready to advance providing there was football. with unending determination the school and its activities pulled through and with it so did our class. our homecoming float was a great success and was viewed as one of the best ever at r.c.k. the lack offunds could not hold us back: we forged ahead with the senior play, babes in arms , which was one of the best senior plays ever. because of unfortuante weather conditions the production was not profitable financially, but in the eyes of those involved it was the most successful event in our years. both theatrically and presonally for all those who took part, the standing ovations were the ultimate reward for their time and effort. our next event was valentine-o-grams which was a success all around. we sold 950 carnations and at least that many songs. the closing event of our years here at ketcham was the senior prom. it was held at meadowbrook lodge and the theme was we may never pass this way again by seals and croft. and so we come to the end of our high school years. in the future we will look back upon them with mixed emotions. we have shared many experiences and thoughts and in the future we will strive for new friendships in which more experiences and thoughts will again be shared. unfortunately those who participated in the clockwork of our activities were few, and yet we have reached virtually all members of our class mainly through the proms, but also through the other events of which we have been in charge. we hope that all whom we have touched in the past and all those whom we will touch in the future will be bettered, somehow, because of the contact they had or will have with us. the roy c. ketcham high school class of 1977 although it does not have the well-known spirit of '76 , does have its own unique spirit, a spirit which will rise to meet the future no matter how trying the obstacles.
