'rx-11: BOSTONIAN yea, KOOL C1-HSS OF 1942 HOCKEY COACH I-lampered bv a lack of practice and inexperi cnced substitutes Roxbury Memorial s hockey sextet suffered a disastrous series of setbacks broken only by a victory over Dorchester Although the boys lacked a heavy scoring punch they produced some fine individual play The reverses were due mainly to the lack of co ordination in the passing attack George Worley Dan Radiches Henry DeStefano and Eddie Burke were the veterans who returned to form the nucleus of the team Other mem bers of the team are Mathews the goalie Apkarian ONc1l Fitzgerald Daly Ducie Crowley Baggett and Clancy When the boys stepped out on the Garden surface to oppose Latin school it was the first time that they were on the ice as a unit Our boys were cleanly outplayed from start to finish but did not give up Mr Campbell our great coach kept them husthng all the time The final score was 6 0 in favor of Latin Facing in Dorchester a rival which was DOI to be feared as much as the others Coach Campbell resorted to radical means to gain a place in the victory column This strategy proved to be very successful as the Memorial sextet banged out a thrilling 3 2 s ictory After John Fitzgerald drove the puck home Dorchester took over a short lived 2 1 lead From here on the Memorialites put o power play after power play Our pucksters dented the strings twice Both successes were hand drnes from the blue line with Waters and Captain DeStefano doing the scoring Fighting against a 2 0 deficit at tne end of the first period the Memorial and John Fitzgerald who whistled home two shots whxch knotted the score at 2 2 The tired play ers were finally overpowered and Trade scored four quick last period goals Don Matthews did some hne goal tending but he as well as the other members of th team was overcome by the sheer power of the oppo nents After that the team fell victim to Mechanics English and Commerce bringing to a close a hardly successful season Although the boys only won a single game they were doing their best at all times They showed good sports manshxp and their courage was admired by their foes The lettermcn are Samuel Apkarian ames Baggett Fdward Burke ohn Clancy 'Vl1chaelCrowley George Daly Edward Ducle Harry DeStefano John Fitzgerald Don Mathews Edward 0NlLll Daniel Radiches Arthur W'1ters George Worley STINIOR5 S XIIxARl'XN N1 CRONXLLY I DUCII I BLRlxl H DLSTIIHANO G IJAIY G-90 109 Wa A L f , . , .4 . 1 . , - 9 7 , .
