T FOOTBALL On October lst a call was issued for football candidates. Over two hundred responded, to be welcomed by Coach Campbell. After two weeks of careful elimination our able mentor had reduced the squad to thirty-five players. This was the finest season in the history of our school, for under the fine leadership of Captain Al Croatti, we won four and lost but three games. This impressive record made lylemorial one of the leading teams in the state. The spectacular runs of Captain Al Croatti, Roger Oginski, Sonny lklazor and lVIike Bronchuck thrilled schoolboy crowds. Line Coach Hanky Geraghty trained a strong forward wall, which was practically impregnable, with such stars as Walter Hooley, Joe Lanata, '4Red Scar- amella and Peach Johnson. Walter Cooke pulled Memorial out of many a tight place with his great kicking and blocking. hlanager Sam Colsio and his assistants Lloyd Day and Eddie Gillis, gave valuable assistance to the squad. ll il Cfaaa of f Q36 l1il1f'l.W TRACK The 1936 Track team will be immortalized in Memorial history for its great achievements. The performers rose to new heights under the tute- lage of Coach Campbell. The enthusiasmtof Heet-footed Captain Hurley was contagious throughout the squad. At the State meet held in the Boston Garden, Memorial completely dominated the field, capturing the hlassachusetts State Title in Class B. In the Regimentals at the 10lst Armory, which for sixteen consecutive years she has Won, English barely eked out a victory over the Green and Gold clan. The most brilliant performers were: '4Russ Singleton, the Memorial Hash, who Won the Regimental 300 yard title, Wesley Taylor, the broad- jump and 50 yard dash champion, broke all state and city records, Paul Wexler, the mighty shotput champion, who broke all existing records, Leo Goldman, for two years Reggie hurdles champion, again ruled his field, and James Kline, who shattered the Class C broad jump and fifty yard dash records.
