Untarji (Exchange tuhcnt PETER JOHN STEVENS 141 Balwyn Road Balwyn Road Melbourne Victoria Australia When they are at Rome, they do there as they see done. Last year when we learned that a foreign exchange student was coming to Roxbury, we were all very much excited. Peter Stevens arrived in January, 1964, from Melbourne, Australia. It didn't take Pete long to adjust to life in Roxbury, and soon he was one of us - a typical teenager of the United States. However, it took some of us quite a while to get used to his accent and his slang words from home, both of which we all enjoyed. Pete found school in the U.S. to be quite different from school in Australia. We hope he enjoyed the change. He also learned that our sports are not the same. He had never before played basketball or soccer, but he participated in both with enthusiasm. Pete was active in all of our class activities. We soon discovered his very sharp wit and his enjoyment of a good time; and no matter where we were or what we were doing, Pete was generally the life of the party. Pete also took part in many of the community activities. Last April he went to Washington, D. C., with the Class of 1964, and during the summer he toured other parts of the country including Cape Cod, northern New York State, and the Poconos in Pennsylvan- ia. Pete was as well-liked by adults as he was by students. He always met his speaking engagements cheerfully. Those who came to know him, especially his host families, were indeed sorry to have him leave. The Collingwood Rotary Club of Melbourne, Australia, is to be congratulated on having picked him as their representative to our country. Finally the time came when Pete had to leave for home. We were all sorry to see him leave in November. However, Pete left with us an unforgettable memory of a wonderful friend with a great personality and sense of humor. We, the Class of 1965, learned a great deal from Pete, and we hope that he gained as much from his experience in Roxbury as we gained from him.
