jeeaofkzy assay A LOOK INTO THE FUTURE - Steve Collins It was a beautiful spring morning, the kind of morning when every- thing seems to be bright and cheerful and yesterday's worries don't seem very important at all, The birds were singing as they flew about gathering material for their nests. It had rained the night before, leaving the ground slightly damp and smelling as fresh as tomorrow's newspaper. The day was Sunday and there were many children, some allegedly in Sunday School, playing on top of the small hill which rose in the park of the neat, comfortable surburban town not too far from New York City. It was also the kind of day that makes you glad to be alive. It was the day that the bombs fell on our cities and fac- tories, airfields, missile sites, and practically everything else that would have even allowed us to fight back. The bombs fell and when they fell, they exploded with blinding flames, obliterating whole cities in a period of seconds. The attack came suddenly and, despite constant talk of war, was almost a complete surprise. As the first of the bombs fell, the President of the United States gave the order which caused buttons to be pushed all over the country. These buttons fired hundreds of preaimed ICBM's from dozens of hiding places around the country. A few of these rockets misfired, but most of them went accurately to their targets and exploded with huge a- tomic blasts which spread death and destruction for miles around most of the great cities of Eastern Europe and Asia. Some of the rockets, however, did not contain bombs, nuclear or otherwise. These rockets held bacteria-virulent, human-killing bacteria. When they hit, there was no explosion and very little noise. The bacteria, when released, were caught by the wind, which carried them to their unsuspecting tar- gets.
