Crjoflforz' In reference to the Future, some of us may be confirmed polly- annas, and others dogged pessimists, while some of us may prefer not to consider it at allg however, the Future must continually be dealt with. The Present is our only chance for preparing ourselves. The Future seems very remote, but we reach into it with such aston- ishing rapidity that many are caught and drowned in the backwash. It is education that is the very foundation of this struggle of life. Education in our schools has been discussed for many years, but per- haps never so much in our own coimtry as in the past year. For many of us, formal education, at least, will soon be ended, but we can by no means say that education will no longer concern us. More and more, as we advance into the Future, we will find that our old com- mon-sense ideas no longer hold true. Our nation is the leader of the Westem World. Therefore it is we who will be watched the most and receive the most criticism and praise in the years to come, because democracy not only provides its people with liberties, but also with more and greater obligations. For these reasons, all of us across the nation who are leaving high school this year, must give our profound thanks to the institu- tions and the people who have given us the primary foundation in preparing for and meeting the Future.
