i i , I l i l 1 I I I I I I ALMA MATER R. H. S. let us always be loyalg Let us all to your dear name be true, Give our all to your fame and your glory- Our strength and our love to you. As the sun sets all gold to the westward, There is never a doubt nor a fear That dear Roxbury High is the best school Alma Mater, we give thee our cheer. l DEDICATIO The Senior Class of 1952 wishes to dedicate this yearbook to MR. RIDGE, whose guidance during the past three years is greatly appreciated. He has been a good sport in all that we've planned and done. We also wish to dedicate our yearbook to MISS RICKARD, who guided us through our first years of school and has been a kind and helpful friend ever since. Last but not least, we wish to dedicate this yearbook to our Senior homeroom teacher. MIR. BRUNO is a good friend, who has lent us a helping hand in many ways. 1 2 EDITORIAL In June of this year, we, the graduating class of 1952, will pass from the doors of R.C.S., and some of us may never return. Some of us may travel far and wide to seek a higher education, and then a 1ife's fortune. Some of us may stay at home to work for.our parents, and still others will perhaps find a job somewhere in a surrounding community. No matter where we stray after those doors close behind us this June, we will be taking the leading role in the biggest show on the road. This role is bigger and better than any Shakespearean role, this one is life. Our parents have been preparing us to lead our own life since we were babies. Our teachers have been teaching us how to meet our future problems, since we were first in school. Teachers, parents, friends, and all our elders have been working hand in hand to help us to understand our world. ' Soon it will be our turn to tell other children what to expect, and how to face life after they are no longer dependent on someone else. Do we know how to face life by ourselves? will we fall in the track when we face our first real problem or our first failure? We have been taught to look at our world as though we were studying a history course in high school. At first it is difficult, but after profiting from a few mistakes of our own and others, we begin to understand it, If we don't try to read and understand a book, it is of no use to us. Our life in the future is the same as reading a book? if V011 don't know how to read it, it is not, at all beneficial. 3 RECORD B0 RD First row: Gary Hink1ey,Joan Brower,Ruby Odel1,Lorraine Shultis,Sissy DeSi1va,Katherine Jaquish, Taella-DEvis,Connie Ross. We hopped aboard my jet Rocket, threw the switch, and landed on the first cloud. While cruising on this cloud, we met some old classmates from Roxbury Central School, class of 1952. There sat Rainy sitting on a cloud, tooting the latest tunes on her tuba. On the moon, we found Beanie, watering his first crop of trees. Elsie, who has at last received her driver's license, was seen touring Mars. Resting on a comet, we found Barry, waiting for his first contract to play in the UGarden.N On Venus we saw Marjorie experimenting with a new kind of permanent wave. Sissy, whose fingernails have reached six inches, is now secretary to the President of Pluto. Galloping across another cloud was Ruby, her destination was home to milk her new dairy of Jerseys. hi Ldglla was seen waiting for HGround Hog Dayu to see'WoodchuckN come from s den. Oh, yes, Alberta has just been made Queen of Stars and plans are being made for further advancement. Over on Mercury, Dorothy was still pondering why she hadn't tried harder in American History, so that she could now be a teacher. Aggg was roaming to Saturn picking up any hitchers who wanted to ride in her new rocketship. Whizzing through space on the latest model of air cycles was J e, pursuing some reckless driver who had just left Mars at a speed of 2 O miles per hour. Dolores, who had just arrived on Mars for a visit, was the only one wishing that she was back to earth again. we learned that Maple had just Joined the Space Army so that the Army won't have to come to her. On Neptune, we discovered Ray had arranged his office Just like his former classroom, so that he could pester that blonde secretary sitting in front of him. Mg,-Qgggg was seen wearing a horse collar for a neck tie and has just invented a new spaghetti sauce. Just as we were about to return, we met Mg, Bidge who is now Dean of Comet College. Signed: Two Starry Creatures from Space I 17 CLASS POEM RAY is the boy: his last name's DeMonieg The girls call him nHign, and the boys think he's funny. Next on the list is a girl named IDELLAg Driving's her sport, and Woodchuck's her Hfella'. BARRY is blond, blue-eyed and tall, He chases the girls and plays basketball. MARIE is little with big brown eyes, She studies Home Ec and goes out with the guys ELSIE is little, delicate, and frail, Her ambition in life is to capture a male. MAHGIE MATTICE toots a big horn, Her remarks are witty, but full of corn. RUBY'S the gal with lots of uwhamng When she's mad at Anne, she'd better scram. JAKE'S the boy who's a basketball ace, Barry and he for high score do race. Q D , n VFFY REANIE ' ' SISS Y READI G CL B ESSAY SO LITTLE TIME It was a cold winter day during the Second World War, on a small island in the Pacific. The Japanese soldiers had just landed on the American-held island, and they were closing in on a small American patrol which was on duty. Bill, a radio technician in the patrol, was trying to repair his radio which had been hit by a bullet and was broken, there was so little time to fix the radio. The enemy was so close that the small patrol could hear their movements. The enemy opened fire and the patrol realized that they were surrounded and knew that they could not drive the enemy offg they needed help immediately Bill, the Marine's radio man, was working frantically on the loud speaker that had been broken by the stray bullet. There were a few stray shots fired by the patrol, but it was hard for them to spot the enemy forces which had dug in. The patrol was going to make it a battle as long as they had men, ammunition, and food supplies, and they hoped that they could get the radio repaired to get in touch with their home base, so reinforcements could get them out of the trap which was closing slowly around them. Then the enemy tried to rush them but were driven back, with a few killed and wounded. This gave Bill a little more time to do the repairs. There was more than the fact that there was so little time that faced Bill. There was the fact that they all might be killed and that they might never see home again. So with these thoughts in mind, Bill worked harder than he had ever worked before. Then suddenly he heard bugles blowing and realized that by some miracle, they were going to be rescued. Later they found out that they had been trailed by a group of Marines who were sent out as an emergency patrol after the enemy had landed. The enemy was driven off, and immediately the patrol began to celebrate its good luck. They still realized that they had so little time to live, but had survived by a miracle. The worn out patrol was safely escorted back to its base. -----Marvin Rose 21 19 1 AWARD Prize of 33.00 given by Andrew F.
