began Building for the Fntnre As each student entered the new Roxhoro High School, he realized that he would have a vital ])art in molding the life of the new school. He was presented with an entirely new building, a student body with many new members, an enlarged faculty, and a school with no history and an unknown future. Each student realized that the future of RHS was in his hands; what he was, RHS would become. The new RHS had no past achievements to stand on, no great accomplishments to point to with pride. The first pages in its history would he written this year; its heritage would be decided by its first stu¬ dents. Building a tradition of spirit, hope and Working together, the members of the student body of RHS built a tradition to point to with pride. Students from several schools joined to form one body with one common aim, to better themselves and their school. This student body moved forward to make RHS not only a school, b ut also a community; not only a place for study, but also a place for fellowship; not only an education, but also a memory. With unending zeal, the students applied them¬ selves to every phase of school life, academic and extra-curricular. Confronted with new subjects and updated texts, the students met the challenge. They ended the year with one of the highest overall averages ever attained by any school in Person County. Several students broke previous academic records set in other schools. Extra-curricular activities were greatly ex¬ panded. Increased faculty interest led to the formation of several new clubs. Almost every student took part in at least one activity, many in more than one. Our athletes succeeded in breaking many previous records. The football team went farther this year than any team in the history of the old RHS. We can look upon the past year with pride. In academics, activities, and sports, we have set the pace. We built a heritage for RHS in one short year, a heritage that will serve as a guide to students for many years. We turned a building of iron and brick into an ediface of hopes and dreams for others and a storehouse of memories for ourselves. 6
