Seutar Class Prophecy TELEVISION REVIEW OF CLASS OF °51, IN THE YEAR ‘61 This is John Brooks announcing the review of the class of 51. We are stationed in the Waldorf Astoria where I am on a rest cure after having spent the last six months on a tour of Japan, in the interest of all children, who have American fathers. In the first scene we will see Billy Horton, Henry O’Briant, and Jack Howerton acting as controllers, after having had the past ten years in training. The football game, we will now see, is composed of Harvard. students; coach is Harold Hatcher and manager is Coy Oakley. Bobby Talbot resigned his position as coach of this team to apply more time to his ministerial duties. Turning on my right, I shall introduce the celebrities: First,” Jean Gentry, Hollywood’s star—starring in “Yours Forever,” Carolyn Featherston, Paramount’s lover girl, in “Hard to Get,” and Amine Clarke designer, who is being escorted by Larry Woods. He has driven up on a free Esso Extra Gas trip. He won this by being able to distinguish gas from kerosene. Next we will go to the Pentagon, where we will see Ben Williams, Bobby Burns and Hugh Beam, composing a committee on “How to Best Discipline the Eighteen Year Old Service Man.” The next scene will recall a very familiar one. This is the First Baptist Church of New York City and the first soloist will be Katie Lee Currin and she will be accompanied by Frances Coggins. Rev. Wilson Elliott is now coming into the pulpit. Ushers are Joe Daniel and Bobby Kerr. They are both residents of this city. Rachel Brooks and Eleanor Stewart may be seen as visitors. They are Educational Directors for the Methodist Church, here. Our next scene will be in the Walter Reed Hospital, here we will see Bob Bass bringing in the patient, who is none other than Chuck Oakley, Hollywood’s Glamour Boy. He was overtaken by a group of autograph seekers. Close behind the cart, Ernie Carr, may be recognized. She is now supervisor of nurses. The orderly we now see is A. J. Carver, who has gotten as far as he can. Ruth Fuller, Jean Abbitt, Mary Ellen Frederick, and Barbara Coates, will be recognized as student nurses. Down in the dieticians’ kitchen, we find Jane Moore, Maxine Harper, and Elnora Clayton, who have majored in “Eating Habits.” Here in the entrance we see a portrait of Ruffin Woody, famed for “Bravery,” as painted by Ann Whitt. Now we shall be switched to the old home town. First, we will go to the Peoples Bank, where we find Margaret Dickerson, Jeanette Fears, and Bobby Daniel. These fellow class mates won their position by their sober habits. Continuing down the street, we learn that Rose Frederick has gotten out of the basement of Peebles’ Dept. Store and is now floor manager for the untrained clerks, Foriesteen White, Anne Wrenn, and Nancy Wade. But in the basement is Billy Fox, who succeeded Bernice Eggleston (transferred from Leggett’s) in the toy department. Genna Timberlake is the lady we recognize, who sews to fit and fits to sew. I shall now turn the show to Slade Crumpton, county agent, who will carry us to the country scenes. The first home we go to, is the home of Austin Dixon. On the porch we see Elva Crumpton, who is county nurse and Ellen Clayton, who is representing “Village Grocery.” We travel up the road until we reach the home of John H. Moore. Here we find Sam Harris, Henry M. Hester, Coy Monk, and W. E. Oakley, attending the Cattle Show. Demonstrating the electric milker is Bruce Dunkley and David Whitfield. These milkers were invented by these two men of our class after they got “too high to reach so low.” Serving as auctioneer is Paul Chambers and escorting the “Lady Prize Winner” is Woodrow Hill. Closing the gate is Earl Brann. On hand for the sale we will see Medford Lunsford, Elliott Chandler, Graham Scott, and Samuel Hurdle and sons. Marie Slaughter is passing by, holding the arm of Admiral Abner Clayton, who is home on leave from the Navy. Flashing by we recognize Billy Hovatter, Hell Driver, driving the 1961 Lincoln, fenderless. As we leave the Cattle Show we meet Ted Smith, new patrolman, teaching Ann Williams, Shirley Gravitte, and Eunice Watson how to drive. As we reach the Roxboro High School, we first see Henry Walker and W. L. Dudley racing with the tardy bell, with Jack Williams, principal, watching them. Inside we see that Rachel Allen has taken over the Library, and we hear Iris L. Broach fussing with Vera Lee Allen and Doris Long. It seems that they haven’t finished their dresses in Home Economics. We flash down the hall to find that Amy Jane Puryear has relieved Miss Mildred in teach- ing English IV. We find Ronnie Perkins teaching U. S. History, while Miss Hester is on a tour of the world. Jimmy Wright and Bert Scott are still helping Miss Holt in the Com- mercial department. Also, we find Dan Cozart teaching Dramatics and Geraldine Clayton, coaching the girls’ basketball team. Mr. House and Miss Williams are still “honeymooning” after five years. We now flash to the music room, to find Alice Whitlock teaching Arnold Shotwell, Bob Wrenn, and Ivan Poston the fundamentals of singing. We will now stop this post-graduate. Well! Dailey Barker (she is taking a course on “New Ways to Stop Talk- ing’), “Can you tell us about some of our class mates that we have not seen or heard of yet?” This is what she has told us: Laura Allen is an outstanding face-lifter in Baltimore, Md. Patricia Brandon is a “lap secretary” to Connie Gravitte, famous athletic coach and star. Clarence Britt and Bobby Buchanan are the coaches at Yale University. Mildred Hen- derson and Betty Grey Wilson are dignified school teachers in Virgilina, Virginia. Roma Hyler and Shirley Owen are now secretaries in Hollywood. Betty A. Owens is the Home Demonstration agent in Roanoke Rapids. Nina Jane Whitfield is a beauty operator in an exclusive shop in Canada. Marion Dixon and Janie Williford are old maids, but they still have their hopes up. Shirley Thomas is manager of Rose’s. Bernadine and Mary Hope Win- stead have opened up the “Winstead’s Driving School.” Janice Albert, Beatrice Solomon, and Sarah Watson own the dress shop called “Your Loss, Our Gain.” McLeen Solomon, Joyce Singleton, and Juanita Short have the largest kindergarten in Roxboro. But most of the kids are their own. Norma Spencer has gone West to appear in the opera “Lonesome, But Lovely.” Ralph Warren is the Lone Ranger in Texas. He finally gave up the profession of football. Mary E. Fox and Mary Lee Whitfield are next appearing in Hollywood’s “Beware.” Now, this is John Brooks, back in New York, signing off for the class of °51. Here’s hoping you will have a successful future. 6 ’ } pe {F nh : | we ) ds A Vs f) Ge Soe. i no VMrie , kein ’ we. th PN PD iy t ™p Yosser wee VRS IY NT NIT NTS Woe oo 5th He i Mae Was Cakai Sa, Waa Wools a no | Qu ee, .
