Business education is education for life—this sums up the two purposes of our department—to teach our students skills needed for careers in the business world and also to teach them knowledge that will contribute to their everyday lives. Mrs. Rose Anne Davis, who is the department head, and the other business teachers strive hard to help their students obtain these goals. 24

The visual arts are an activity of the whole organism, an activity which begins in the senses with direct experience of facts, events, and ideas and finally involves the emotions. Until the individual becomes sensitive to experiences and to ideas, until experiences and ideas mean something to him personally, he is not able to think creatively either about himself or about his world. His sensibilities, his values and his attitudes are the key to his intellect. It is the primary function and objective of the visual arts to be directly concerned with the development of these essential components of learning, and it is the Art Department that is concerned with the teaching of these visual arts. Through both Studio and Art Workshop courses, Mr. Hill and Mr. Durham expose their students to many aspects of the visual arts. Mr. Hill and Mrs. Groshong also teach a theater practice class w'hich deals with the visual arts as they relate to the design and construction of scenery. A new part of the Art Department this year is Art Service. The recent acquisition of a number of color slides has made it possible for Mr. Hill and Mr. Durham to go to individual classes to show slides and give lectures on various areas related to art.
