ROXANA COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL Roxana, Illinois Steve Cozine, Editor 72edicatio i The Rox Staff of 1960-1961 dedicates this yearbook to the new additions in the Junior and Senior High Schools. Long desired and planned for, these accommodations represent the rapid growth of the ever-sprouting Roxana school system and, also, constitute a stalward step toward the future. Included in these additions are 6138 square feet of formica-topped and chromium-plated cafeteria, 2376 square feet of sound-proofed band room, and 5478 square feet of much needed Assembly-Study Hall, not to mention the ,?umpteen-hundredM square feet of classrooms. The appreciation felt by students, faculty, and that indefinite but inevitable group known as Mthe up-and-coming overflow cannot, however, be expressed in square feet. And so, this yearbook is dedicated to the new additions, as the students and faculty of Roxana High are dedicated to those persons whose dreams and plans made these additions a reality. Mrs. Galan and Mrs. Rhodes are the two patient souls who must single out the important, tolerate the unimportant, and deal with the impossible. While Mrs. Galan has her hands full taking care of money deposits for student activities, typing rosters, running the mimeograph machine, and recording and filing grades for student profiles and honor roll; Mrs. Rhodes keeps up an equal pace in collecting and tending to attendance slips and records, as well as helping the student indistress (this, alone, is enough to keep a whole staff busy!. ) Although, as you can see, the going is sometimes trying, these lovely ladies manage to keep up their spirits along with the rapid pace. 13 2 S S 'PIok- faculty Mrs, Hurley; Mrs. Moxey; Mrs. Fleming; Mrs. Arnold; Mrs. Lambert; Mrs. Pearson; Mrs. Metz; Mrs. Harmon; Mrs. Kitzmiller; Mrs. Garrett; Mrs. Lasater r. The crowd roared its chants of victory as the orange flames leaped up before them. Their voices returned faithfully, however, to cheer the mighty Shells on to a smashing 39-13 victory over Highland, Friday night. A sharp, but pleasant contrast to the battering line of tackles and ball carriers was the procession of Roxana beauties who preceded the new queen, Dottie Milligan, up the aisle to the Roman-inspired stage, on Saturday evening. Finally, after a memorable Coronation Dance, the queen and an exhausted alumni wound up the 1960-61 Homecoming festivities. Staying late alter school, coming to school on Saturday to work on an unreasonable facsimile of a yearbook may not be the ultimate idea of fun--but it is honest-to-goodness work. Somehow you forget about the work and the worry involved when that bunch of papers and film begin to ressemblea yearbook (and a good one at that), and when kids stop you in the hall and say, Tha s a swell yearbook.” Yes, you forget the headaches know ing that you have done something to make a school year more memorable--and somehow more perfect. 23 StucLmt (fautcil Front Row--Bette Jones, Steve Cozine, Mary Sparling, President; Ronnie Sparling, Kay Covan Second Row --Mary Robinson, Paul Struharik, Drexine McGill, Lin Butterworth, Ruth Hendricks, Jim Farthing, Martha Hurley Last Row--Tom Holder, Stanley Cox, Mrs. Kruse, sponsor Secret Ballot?
