This salient ingre- dient is integrity. It exists in copious amounts in all great leaders and men that history has proven great. Integrity is that one thread that has been woven through the history of all freedom-loving people. Nothing great was ever achieved without it. Through the years, industries of the com- munities in the Alton area have strived to perfect and preserve high standards of integrity, thereby contributing their part to the overall integrity of their communities and ultimately their country. In the days .and months that lie ahead, you who are being graduated will find that your success through life will in no small way be determined by your personal integrity. And may you be one of those who in the years to come will help further the integrity of your community and our great nation in the eyes of all peoples of the world. HOME COMING ACTIVITIES The Misses Charlene Boverie, Judy Kay Willis, Carolyn Tyler, Susan Isted, and Pat Thomson were chosen on Sep- tember 5 by the Senior Class as candidates for the 14th Annual Homecoming Queen. On September 22 the whole stu- dent body voted for one of these girls to become queen. On Thursday of that week, a pep rally was held and a sock hop followed. On the following Friday, a parade was held, and many beautiful floats were entered by the organi- zations of the school. Prizes were given to: Senior Class, most enthusiastic, F. H. A., best decorated, and G. A. A., most original. Before the game, ceremonies were held, consisting of the showing of the winning floats and the introduction of the queen candidates. The game started promptly at 7:30 p.m., ending in a victory for the Shells. The coronation was held Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. Miss Charlene Boverie was crowned queen of R.H.S. for 1958-1959 by Mr. Charles Wiley, President of the R Club. A Coronation Dance followed, with Al Razebek's Orchestra providing the music. ff , ' . fzf ' ' :S K l 39 - . . ,, -.3 ,, ' I , . ,A Jak. ,-:L Qt. K V . . -A, -A Zh, K 241,,,:f.S 4 4-1, Q:-... Our Shells have had a good season this year. Through the able help of our coach, Mr. Earl McLane, the season was completed with six wins, only two losses, and one tie. Our tie game was played with Edwardsville, ending in a 7-7 dead- lock. The two losses, to Wood River, 7-6, and to Dupo, 7-0, were close contests. If it weren't for a bit of bad luck, we would have had a perfect sea- pon's recordg for we rose victorious over sucl' football clubs as Belleville and Benld. Besides having a good seasonal record of games, our Shells have assembled a terrific statistical record. The total yardage for the season came to l689 yards, which was divided into 428 yards passing and 1261 yards rushing. Forty-six out of 101 passes were completed, and eighty-five first downs were award- ed to our team. Many of our victories were accomplished by the combined efforts of our co-captains, Pat Hamm and Charley Wiley. Pat Hamm, a halfback, took scoring and yardage honors. He bagged fifty-five points and was responsible for a total of 852 yards. Besides these achievements, Pat Hamm was chosen to be on the All- Conference Team and holds the Elk's Club Back of the Year Award. The other co-captain, Charley Wiley, served as a fullback for Roxana. During the period when Pat Hamm was injured, he assumed full responsibility on the field. Charley scored forty-nine points and was responsible for a total of 627 yards. These boys did a fine job, and newspapers named boys to anhon- team. The POST DISPATCH selected Ray Naughton, Charley Wiley, and Pat Hamm, the GLOBE DEMOCRAT picked Jack Kleinert, Tom the school and the team are very proud of them. 4 '1' Q ,nffq 0,0 Q, '.5.' is ea Uatewood, and Pat Hamm, and the PR ESS RECORD selected Gary Howe and Pat Hamm. In the days .and months that lie ahead, you who are being graduated will find that your success through life will in no smdll way be determined by your personal integrity. And may you be one of those who in the years to come will help further the integrity of your community and our great nation in the eyes of all peoples of the world.
