Girls Varsity Scores Rowland vs. Walnut 44-20 West Covina 15-45 Wilson 2a 39 Edgewood 19-41 - Los Altos 27-28 1 1 ! t -4. SIERRA LEAGUE CHAMPS This year ' s Boys Cross Country team proved to be one of the most outstanding teams in the history of Rowland High School. It won more awards and had more people placed on honor teams than any previous year-, the most important was being Sierra League Champions. Steve Perez, an outstanding runner, was named to the All-Valley 1st Team and received the All-Valley Leather Lunger Award. Alberto Espinoza. Ken- ny Gallardo and L ennis Whitewere named to the All-Valley 2nd Team. The Girls Varsity Team also did an outstanding job this year. They finished second in the league. Cindy Hays and Erin Eicher were named to the All-Valley 1st Team, while Desiree Flores, Karen Gorman and Renee Nakayama were named to the All-Valley 2nd Team. Jim Brown who coach es both the boys and the girls teams led a very talent- ed group of athletes this year. He stated: I am just overly pleased with the complete team success and the overall attitude of the boys and girls. 84 Cross Country

They lost in a sudden death overtime 12-13. This loss placed the team in 3rd place for the Sierra League Championship. The team effort in this game, however, was the best ever. Coach Hale said, This team had the best attitude of any team I ' ve ever coached. They also improved the most. He noted further, This team ' s overall attitude as a whole was never let down- never quit. Outstanding players on the team were: Jim Riutta. Most Valuable Player; Tom Young, Most Improved; Gary Grey. Most Inspirational; and Darren Blankenship, Most Dedicated. The JV Waterpolo team finished the year with 14 wins and 4 losses, tying for league champs with Wilson. Tom Losonsky was named the Most Valuable Player on the JV team. Water Polo 83
