Life (that little period that exists between birth and death) is a puzzle- ment, said the King of Siam. It is compounded of segments known as time that rush quickly by and disappear somewhere - no one knows where. And all that is left of time-past is lodged safely in my mind. As 1 sit at my desk waiting for time to pass, I realize how quickly the last four years have gone. I reflect on the growth that has occurred within my classmates and myself. I ' ve gained abundant amounts of knowledge and self assurance since the first day of high school. I recall how afraid I was at the beginning. The vastness of the school and its atmosphere over- whelmed and yet excited me at the same time. As time passed, adjustment came. I was still excited, but not over- whelmed. My Sophomore and Junior years passed by in a blur, leaving few standout memories, but much growth. My senior year was by far the most memorable segment of time, but passed the most quickly. How sad - the last rally, the last football game, the last dance, and the last hurried lunch on the mall. As I glance at the clock on the wall, I see that the hands have moved again. I get up, fasten my gown, walk to the mirror, and adjust my cap. I take one last look, for once again time has passed, and another segment has fallen into place. I say a last goodbye, knowing that time past will live forever in the recesses of my mind. Julie Carpenter i
