The saying Just another face in the crowd cannot apply to Tom Mortimer. Tom, who mea- sures 6 ' 8 , will always be A face above the crowd . Tom has always felt his height has been an advantage in sports. He played football for two years, playing on the varsity team when he was a Sophomore. He quit play- ing football, however, stating: It ' s too dangerous. His interest in basketball began in the 7th grade, and he has played on the varsity team for three years. Tom is not only very tall, but very agile also, an asset necessary for basketball. Because of his ability, he has been approached by several colleges that are interested in him. When asked if his height ever hinders him, he said, Yes. Driving new, smaller cars is one-, being stared at while standing in line is another; and having to wait six months to get a pair of Levis that fit is yet another. Tom feels very strongly about school. School comes first and other activities second. A great deal of credit goes to the teachers at Rowland for changing my attitude towards school, thus, changing my life. They made school important to me. His main goal is to obtain a degree in Business Manage- ment and go into the family business.
