BUCKED SNORTED The Homecoming Dance was a far greater success than anticipated, so much so that the room in which the dance was held could not accomodate the over- flow crowd. The Western theme and the Mechanical Bull added excitement and fun to the dance. The bull was set up on the dance floor, and any would-be cowboy or cowgirl could plunk down their dollar and challenge the bull. The bull, being so popular, mono- plized the crowd the entire evening. Crowds sur- rounded the roped off area to watch the bull do its stuff, it bucked and snorted, gently to some, but also throwing the oft unwary rider to the mat below, much to the delight of the audience. The D.J., Ronnie Roberts, held court at the opposite end of the floor, with a small area inbetween that proved far too small for the huge crowd that had come to the dance. The evening began winding down at 11:30 when the bull bucked his last, and saddle-sore cowboys and cow- girls gingerly left for home, spurning the round dance that ends all Western dances. 264 Homecoming Dance

Becky SanRoman receives her crown from Mr. Aney Crystal Evening was the theme chosen for this year ' s Winter Formal, which was held at the Disneyland Hotel in the Em- bassy Room on January 9th. The music for the evening was provided by Scandal. The music was excellent, an opinion held by the students and chaperones alike. The dance floor was spacious, enabling plenty of room for the dancing. This year ' s dance began a new tradition for Rowland High School. Instead of just a queen, a king and a queen were chosen to reign over the festivities, and a prince and prin- cess for each class were chosen. Sean Armstrong became the first king in the history of the school, and Rebecca SanRoman was chosen as queen. The royal couples for the classes were: Freshmen Prince Chris Gallego, Princess Heidi Ventura; Sophomore Prince Bobby Markowski, Princess Erin Fausone; Junior Prince Craig Tippings, Princess Ella Bosrock; Senior Prince Andy Casana, Princess Mary Schlichting. At the stroke of twelve, the crystal shattered and royalty changed back to students again. Winter Formal i63
