Learning about the German culture is an important aspect of the German Club. In order to do this, the club sponsors a variety of events that would lead to more knowledge of the German Culture. They discovered many German traits when they visited Alpine Village and Solvang. However, one of the most memorable occasions was the German Christmas party where they tried to recreate an authentic German Christmas feast. To become better acquainted with their counterparts in Germany, many of the club members have pen pals in West Germany with whom they correspond on a regular basis, while some of the German II students attended a German Camp to learn more about Germany. The star member of the club this year was Soo Shin. Soo spent last summer in Germany where she studied and toured various areas of Germany. Mrs. Grabler, the club advisor, feels that students always benefit from a knowledge of other cultures that exist in our world. 324 German

The International Club not only seems to bring students of different cultures and backgrounds together within the club, but it also shares its special mem- bership with the rest of the school. The most obvious example of the clubs special place on campus is International Day, which was held in February this year. International Day brought exchange students from surrounding high schools in the, area to Rowland where they joined forces with our own ex- change students to hold discussions in various classrooms on campus. All sorts of topics were presented, from life in a foreign country to current world situations and issues. Everyone involved felt the experience was educational and very enjoyable. The club also held several fundraisers this year, among these were a car wash, skate night and game shows. A trip to Disneyland ended the year. ■ - 4 International 225
