I am not solitary whilst I read and write, though nobody is with me. But if a man would be alone let him look at the stars . . . Ralph Waldo Emerson OflF60AIIM5 QOImY TPiNJ , THEV ftsr “Do not stand on this mountain and weep, I am not here, I do not sleep. I am the thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on pure white snow. I am the sunlight on groomed terrain. I am the gentle autumn ' s rain. Face it. Curiosity will not cause us to die — only lack of it will. Never to want to see the other side of the hill or that improbable country where living is an idyll (although a probable hell) would kill us all. Only the curious have, if they live, a tale worth telling at all. — Alastair Reid Whatever you vividly imagine ardently desire, sincerely believe, and enthusiastically act upon must inevitably come to pass. ) I ) so much depends upon a red wheel barrow glazed with rain water beside the white chickens. — William Williams He who laughs last had to have it explained. Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow. My little horse must think it queer To stop without a farmhouse near Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year. He gives his harness bells a shake To ask if there is some mistake. The only other sound ' s the sweep Of easy wind and downy flake. The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep. And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep — Robert Frost When I heard the learn ' d astromener. When the proofs, the figures, were ranged in columns before me, When 1 was shown the charts and diagrams, to add, divide, and measure them. When I sitting heard the astronomer where he lectured with much applause in the lecture-room, How soon unaccountable I became tired and sick, Till rising and gliding out I wandered off by myself, In the mystical moist nig ht-air, and from time to time. Looked up in perfect silence at the stars. — Walt Whitman 58 VVl iniKoiv? ol A Fiexenp” Thefirstjerson who comes in when the whole world has.
