-ST. C ' JS SCH0Q ,_ -IAU. UTAH 205 FIP-t Dedication This year, the Hallmark staff dedicates the yearbook to Mr. Ray Wilkerson . Although Ray himself is seldom seen around the school, his presence is evident everywhere. A genius at woodworking, Ray devotes countless hours to projects through- out the school . In every department his handiwork can be seen, whether in simple repairs such as shelves and blackboards, or in major projects, including the remodeling of the gym and the construction of the lower school science lab. Ray is particularly devoted to the school . For him, no job is too large or too small, and he delights in doing kindnesses for people within the school . He gives bouquets to teachers and staff members in the spring. He has played Santa Claus for school classes, and has donated Christmas trees to lend a fes- tive air to the school lobby. Throughout the grounds his bird- houses can be seen, and this summer he constructed the new drinking fountain and the hanging sign that stand in front of A building. Ray is a gentle man. He is quiet, kind, and generous. He is a man of many talents: a philosopher, a poet, a nature lover, and an artist with a fondness for Mozart. Most of all , Ray is a loving man, and he shows this loving nature in everything he does for the school . Ray ' s love and interest for R .H .-S .M . extend far beyond his professional work. After years of silent, seldom recognized service to the school, which started in 1951, we would like to give Ray a public Thank You on behalf of the student body . Staff, Hallmark ' 77 2 MR, RAY WILKERSON 3 4 MR. WILLIAM PURDY Headmaster Mr. Purdy is known and loved by all the students of Rowland Hall - St. Mark ' s School. He began teaching on the original staff of St. Mark ' s in 1956, and has led us through the many changes since. In 1969 he became our headmaster, and keeps in close touch with the student body. It Is useless to send armies against ideas. Georg Brandes THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES David L. Bigler Peter W. Bil lings, Jr. Charles A. Boynton The Rt. Rev. E. Otis Charles Charles H . Culp Ian M. DYLAN EVANS Assistant Headmaster Since joining us last year, Mr. Evans has become an integral part of Rowland Hall - St. Mark ' s. While students have kept him busy with dress code enforcement, discipline, and college counselling, his days are, nevertheless, filled with valuable contributions to the school. Education involves making a committment about life, then acting on it no matter what it may cost. Malcolm Boyd And now we are grown, with debts and regrets And broken hearts and sentimental schemes Now every tender failure seems to overthrow old dreams. Our Baccalaureate is held in St. Margaret ' s Chapel. 9 PAUL STEPHEN ANSTALL 1 am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordea! of meeting me is another matter. He said to me, You must not ask for so much. And a pretty woman leaning on her darkened door. She cried to me, Hey, why not ask for more? SANDRA LUE JARVIS student Gov. 12. When I carefully consider the curious habits of dogs, I am compelled to conclude That man is the superior animal. When I consider the curious habits of man, I confess, my friend, I am puzzled. A true dragon is insurmountable; a paper tiger is easily torn. Only the strong survive the great torrents of life. MICHAEL COTTRELL McGEE The true way goes over the rope, which is not stretched at any great height, but just above the ground. It seems more designed to make people stumble than to be walked upon. Franz Kafka TERRI KAY McKEE To look at anything. If you would know that thing. You must look at it long: To look at this green and say I have seen spring in these Woods, will not do - you must Be the thing you see: You must be the dark snakes of Hemp and ferny plumes of leaves. You must enter in To the small silences between the leaves. You must take your time And touch the very peace They issue from. This page is dedicated to those members of the Armed Forces of the United States who gave their lives that others might live in freedom and peace. Time will not dim the glory of their deeds. TIMOTHY ANDREW RYAN The conversation is delirious, forth-coming arguments are obvious, All of us are crazying. Today will begin tomorrow, Cause we ' ve argued ourselves to sorrow. We love each other, amazing! DAVID ROUDOLPH SIEGEL I donate this space to science, for my intended quote was too lengthy. I hope this conforms to accepted standards. We are all boxes on the hillside, and we are all made out of ticky-tacky, and we all look the same. As my cubicle shrinks to allow more to conform, I am engulfed in a sea of ticky-tacky. My world becomes a boot camp and we are all sheep, ready to conform. Therefore, in light of certain restrictions, I offer no quote. JENNIFER ANNE WAIT student Gov, 9, 10; Forensics 9; Science Fair 9; Candle and Carol 9, 10, 11, 12; School Play 11; Editor, yearbook 12. Song for the Asking Here is my song for the asking. Ask me and I will play So sweetly I ' ll make you smile. This is my tune for the taking. Take it! Don ' t turn away I ' ve been waiting all my life. Thinking it over, I ' ve been sad. Thinking it over , I ' d be more than glad To change my ways for the asking. Ask me and I will play All the love I hold inside. Through many activities, the Association seeks to inform the school community of important events, pro- vide a forum for discussion of issues, raise funds for improvement projects and special needs, and many other vital functions. To try to list all these activities here would be futile. Every student is aware of the many bene- fits, both personal and community, that are made possible each year by the work of the Home and School Association. The student body extends its deep thanks. 86 THANK YOU HALLMARK 77 PATRONS Ml ' S. Margaret Olwell Mr. Joseph Rosenblatt Mr. John L .
