SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY NANCY CEEDER IS asslstant scrlbe and lf I ru use the word newshound The assembly l 1 composed of several scrxbes wr1t1ng on parchme at of dlfferent natures We stand ln the room fascln ated as the scrlbes pass carrylng parchment after parchment down the long lme Thls umque meth od was Invented by BILL LYNCH Crown Prlnce WILLIAM prldes hlmself on being efflclent As a matter of general mformatxon thls IS the only castle ln K1ng Arthurs domaln that his dayllght savlng tlme You burn fewer candles hence It lS a great economy We leave our mdustrlous sr'r1bes and prepare to v1s1t an mtrlgulng spot 1n the castle known as the alchemlst s room We wlnd our way upward to the farthest tower of the castle Cau tlously we open a heavlly paneled door of a room d1m and too warm for comfort The alchemrst IS buslly employed at the moment wnth two l'1d1es of the court JUNE CHRISTOPHER and DOLORS STRONG S1r JOHN ROSAA the alchemlst 1n questlon IS selllng them potions Although we cannot hear them from where we stand lt appears JOHN IS askmg an enormous sum for h1s concoc tlons JUNE and DOLORS are puttlng up a good fight but JOHN IS very shrewd when It comes to the questlon of money Be xt large or small to JOHN money IS somethmg more than Just money We leave the room and begm to c11mb a huge sta1r case We look at the damp and drafty steps wltn dlsmay After all our tWlStlDgS turmngs and steppxng we wonder whether we can make lt to the top of thxs last fllght To llve ln a castle you must be physlcally f1t to the pomt of belng athletlc Slr PHIL stops occaslonally to let us catch our breath then we contlnue up the stairway He doesn t seem affected by the clxmb ln any way But our wmded group surmlses that you get used to cllmbmg staxrs And what was our goalq We enter mto a brlghtly llghted room warm and about as cozy as posslble ln thxs day and age We fmd our selves ln the mxdst of several ladles of the court Evldently thls IS thelr sewlng room From the hum of volces we also know that thls IS the part of K1ng RUSSELLS castle where reputatlons are made or are broken We are astounded by the fast movmg fmgers and the seemlngly faster movlng tongues Slr PHIL 1ntroduces us to Lady MARIAN Lady MARIAN SPECHT that IS Lady MARIAN w111 be our gulde through the chambers on thls floor She leads over to the huge flreplace cheerfully sending out warmth and llght lnslde these thlCk gray walls A group of elegently clothed ladles ln velvets and furs are workmg on a huge tapestry We recogmze them as JUNE BAGNALL OPAL BENNETT BIDDIANA HEIL PAT LITWILER and DOROTHY ROLLAND They stop thelr work for a brlef moment nod and contlnue agaln wlth the latest court gosslp Lady MARIAN next leads u to the court beautlclan Lady JOYCE JACK SON Her lmplements are rather startlmg but wo men w1ll do anythmg for beauty She IS ln the process of beautlfylng one of the court ladles and from the depths of a mud pack we hear the muffled volce of Lady PAT COLE Lady PAT volunteered to trv out a Lady JOYCE dlscovery From her frantlc movements we gather somethlng has gone wrong and as Lady JOYCE prepares to chlsel the frantlc Lady PAT out of her beauty mask we leave the ladles chambers just as Lady DIXIE JONES comes runnlng IH wxth more sturdy tools Wh1Ch brmgs to m1nd the adage What pr1ce beauty? We thank Lady MARIAN and prepare to leave the lnterlor of the castle Our gulde once agaln IS Sxr PHIL The last rays of llght can be seen ln the courtyard as we are mtroduced to SQUIFCS FRANK YUSKO CHUCK ANDERSON and JOHN WATSON Thelr functlon ln the castle lS the management of the varlous de partments of the mterlor the kltchen the great One of thelr asslstants JOHN JOHNSON was ser lously 1nJured when a sult of armour that he was pOl1Sh1Dg fell on h1m but we are glad to report he s maklng a satlsfactory recovery S1r PHIL next leads through one of the gates ln the castle wall where our eyes behold varlous fxelds planted Wlth the castle gram We are then mtroduced to those flve sc1ent1f1c farmers of an unsclentlflc age JOHN COLVER JOE HOGLE GEORGE MALLORIE and EUGENE MOOK and PAUL RING who are the mam provxders of the Kmgs table Our tour IS drawmg to a close but before we leave our llttle Jaunt back 1nto the days of Good K1ng Arthur we are mtroduced to two knights of renown RUSSELL BEEMAN and JIM SPECHT They are the cham plons of K1ng RUSSELL S castle and lf there are any falr ladies to rescue or dragons to be slam or battles to be fought these boys are always ready w1ll1ng and able As the sun smks slowly m the west and candles are bemg lxghted m the castle we damtlly tread our way back over the puddles m the courtyard of K1ng RUSSELL S castle turn and gxve a partmg wave to our hosts cross the drawbrldge and slowly wander back 1nto the pres ent thus endmg our l1ttle fantasy Smcerely yours SALLY KASTO Prophet 1956 Class , , ine 's ' , ' ' ' ' . . SL-'NIUR CLASS PROPHECY It IS now the t1me of year that I class prophet probe the depths of my bra1n and llterature book and compose an exceptxonal classlc known as a class prophecy W1th a class as extraordmary as our Semor Class of 1956 fcoughl lt would have to be a b1t on the phenomenal s1de Although I should look 1nto the future I shall take an unprecedented llberty and wlth the ald of the Muses step back 1nto the musty annals of re corded tlme I couldnt f1nd msplratlon for my commentary 1n the Stone Age and wxth good rea son As those prolonged grunts and groans m1 ht have become rather monotonous After concen trated and extens1ve thought Ive declded to place th1s class ln the perlod of kmghts 1n Shlfllllg armor of courtly kmgs and queens and of Shakespearean wltches wlth w1ld eyes and straggllng halr Let us meander to that 1mpos1ng castle fortlfv 1ng yon hlll As we pass over the drawbrldge and enter the courtyard we flnd the castle a bustllng and busy enterprlse As we stand 1ns1de the gate and survey the castle we are about to enter It seems huge and forb1d1ng but the sound of the merry voxces IH the courtyard qulets over our fears We l1ft the hems of our vestments and gln gerly plck our way among the puddles and debrls toward the ma1n entrance As the huge oak door swlngs open we enter to flnd a royal greetmg from Klng RUSSELL HUMPHREY Crown Prlnce BILL LYNCH Pr1ncess KATHRYN WHITFORD and Lord Hlgh Exchequer ROBERT DODGE who keeps th1s mlghty castle on a sound fmanclal bas1s C Shades of the class of 56 J After the exchange of frxendly greetmgs and the off1c1al welcome bv Good Kmg RUSSELL and hlS royal retlnue we are led 1nto the maln hall where we notlce a fa1nt t1nkl1ng of bells Before we take another step two guadely dressed Jesters appear DON Touchstone SCHIAVONE and ROBERT Scampy PUNKAR and for the next few mmutes they seem to surround us wlth bells and peals of laughter and they d1s appear as mysterlously as they appeared leavlng only the echo of the1r merrlment After we catch our breath from the surprlse of thelr appearance and d1sappearance we compose ourselves and fol low the royal party mto the mam hall where a feast has been prepared 1n our honor Our eyes are amazed at the array of food be fore us Table upon table 1S f1lled w1th del1cac1es to tempt the appetlte meats of almost every k1nd as well as f1Sh vegetables frults We take the places appolnted to us amid laughter and merry makmg After we have eaten to the po1nt of burst mg our entertalnment IS summoned Kmg RUS SELL has managed to procure Jongleurs who are h1ghly skllled 1n muslc danc1ng slnglng and acro bat1cs SANDRA WELLS plays harp JEANETTE REETS the flute MARY PARKER the organ and JUNE FLICK a horn These talented per formers are known on the contment for thelr ml Sl cal ablllty We llsten 3V1d1y It IS a well known fact that they and the1r sololst JUDY WHITNEY appeared at Kmg Arthur s court and were repeat edly asked for encores untll they begged to leave because of weary flngers and lungs As the muslc contlnues 1n the background we turn to Pr1ncess KATHRYN and ask th orl n of the wonderful food of wh1ch we have partakel She graciously tells us that flve people are resn slble for the splendld food Dames SALLY SKIN NER JANICE WALLA FAYE BARNARD NAN CY BARTLETT and LEETA ATKINS Thxs staff hlghly skllled 1n the cullnary art was trained bv Kmg Arthurs own cook Also lncluded ln the f6St1V1t1eS IS JANET STACK champlon table setter pared at 1ts flnest IH th1s castle Our group reassembles from the dlfferent tables and prepares to follow squlre PHIL HUMALAI NEN who wlll conduct us for the remalnder of our tour We leave the huge mam hall and walk down a dlmly l1ghted passageway The hall IS dlm and we can scarcely make out the outlme of our gulde S1r PHIL Suddenly we are stopped ln our tracks by a cloud of smoke f1ll 1ng the d1m passage Naturally we are alarmed but Sxr PHIL explalns that 1S only the court Magl clan BOB DALRYMPLE pract1c1ng h1S dlsappear 1ng act Lord BOB has perfected the feat of d1s appearlng but he has a lxttle trouble reappearmg agaln The cloud of smoke IS a sure slgn he s d1s appeared but cant fmd h1s way back to our atmos phere S1r PHIL tells us hell be suspended 1n space 1ndef1n1tely untll he can fxgure out what went wrong The smoke clears and we meander on We are now standmg on the threshold of a room lined wlth shelves on WhlCh scrolls and qullls are very evldent Although lt seems hlghly lmprob able our eyes behold an assembly lme as BERTHA BRISTOL and NANCY CEEDER ln a far corner bus1ly confer over a PIECE of parchment Our gulde mforms us that BERTHA IS the edltor of the B1 weekly Parchment that conta1ns poetlc odes to deservmg kn1ghts and court hearsay , , y y .
