First the ROWE was called upon to escort two Japanese transports carrying Thailand troops . . . with the Thailand prime minister aboard . . . And second the ROWE took part in a search for a downed military aircraft that resulted in a rescue aircraft being towed into harbor by the ROWE . . . thought to be the only instance of a destroyer rescuing an aircraft by taking it in tow on the open seas . . . to the right and below are actual pictures of the rescued rescue plane and of a rescue boat picking up survivors . . . night prevented pictures being taken of the plane while in tow astern the ROWE . . . Following Korean operations we transited the Shimonoseki Straits to Kobe, Japan . . .
