Jay . 36 Class History September the 6, 1965 marked the beginning of our lives as student nurses at Rowan Memorial Hospital. Our first week consisted of orientation, picnics, sing- spiration, talent show, getting to know our big sisters, and last--but not least, Mrs. Humphrey. After the first week we had to get down to some serious business. First was Anat - omy with Mr, Newell and his specific area and principle, principles, principles.” Then came lovable Dr. Detty with Chemistry and his formula NNTHMMCH, Remem- ber Mrs. Humphrey and the endless hours of learning the hows and the whys. Then came the day we received our mid-calf uniforms and plain white caps. Along with this came cleaning units, bed making, TPR's, and BP's. Then the long awaited and dreaded day--our first injection. Social events this year included selling doughnuts, the Fall Festival, and the Val- entine’s Dance. We lost 7 of the 29 students that started the year, leaving only 22 to continue. Our next big event was promotion, when we added our Junior stripes to our caps. We could no longer be called ''Baby Nurses. With this year came added responsibility and new courses including OR, RR, and Med-Surg Nursing. On March 5, 1967 at 7:18 p.m., we loaded the train for Torrance, Pa, where we would spend three months studying psychiatry. This brings to mind such things as the tub bath ordeal , broken light bulbs, blind dates, yelling out the window, 2:00 a.m. late leaves, and WEEK-ENDS. We can't forget our favorite patients --Molly, lectc jejim,, Genevie, Louie, Freddy, and the drug addicts. Social events of this year were selling fruit cakes and candy, the Fall Festival (which our class sponsored), the summer dance, and the Junior-Senior banquet. This year we lost two students, leaving only 20 to complete our training. One girl beat us to a degree; she received her MRS. Social events this year included the monthly activities - -the Fall Festival, and selling’ lite bubs'’, Another student received her MRS. As we look back we have many pleasant as well as unpleasant memories Olthese three years. We all agree that they are just a part of the challenge that is ahead of us. On May 26, 1968, the most important day of our lives here at RMH--graduation --and the big step from student nurses to graduate nurses. Sue Whittaker, leave my three years accumulation of frustrations to my little sis- ter, Nancy Martin. a9 PROPHECY CASE OF THE MISSING CLASS OF 1968 Two agents from U.N.C.L.E. have been hired by Miss Rachel Suggs to investigate the whereabouts of the Class of 1968, They were last seen on graduation day, May 26, 1968, at the First Baptist Church in Salisbury, N.C. Illya Martha Kuryakin and Napoleon Sue Solo have been appointed as under= cover agents to procure some vital information. This investigation has taken Illya and Napoleon over many miles, and much has been accomplished. It seems that the past ten years has brought about many changes TOC Vey One, The report is as follows: The first assignment began in the slightly smoggy but exciting city of Pittsburgh, Pa. where Mrs. SANDY PAULL 'Cardellino was found to be a great asset to her husband's furniture industry as a model amidst the decor in his showroom. ANN SMITH has opened up a nightclub near Blairsville, Pa. called The Waticiee: People from Pittsburgh are now coming to Blairsville for nightly entertainment. While in Pittsburgh, Ilya and Napoleon decided to stay in one of the beautiful Holi- day Inns where another face was identified. Miss PEGGY ELLIOTT is now a NV ias and was lucky enough to catch the President of Holiday Inns, Inc. After leaving Pittsburgh we headed South, but with too much haste. BARBARA LAWRENCE, who is now her husband's assistant Highway Patrolman, pulled us to the side and presented us a ticket for speeding. As if this wasn't enough, our ca r would not start and we called Maxwell's Garage for assistance. CYNTHIA MAX- WELL appeared with all her tools, and in less than four hours we were on our way. At last we were in the shipyards of Norfolk, Va. where Mrs, GLENDA JOHNSON Caylor' was dropping anchor with her husband in the U.S. Navy. Our next city was Charlotte, N.C. Mrs. KAREN MASTEN Brooks has replaced Betty Feezor as T.V.'s authority in domestics. Her nursing career has not been too successful due to the fact that her husband is a mortician. Mrs. SUE WHITAKER Coe is driving everyone nuts so her husband (a psychol- ogist) can make enough money to support their twelve children (four sets of twins). MARTHA EVERHART and PATRICIA CAMPBELL have made millions off of their latest beauty discoveries. Pat is the nation's leading authority in hair coloring, and Martha is President of a new hair straightening company. 40 At nearby Davidson College, SUSAN THOMPSON is the newly elected President of the Wildcat Booster Club, This is quite an accomplishment in a college for men. Mrs, PATRICIA JARRETT Turner was found to be a devoted housewife and has often been seen knitting baby booties and shining combat boots. As we turned west to the mountains of Waynesville, we find GWYN MORGAN as a Public Health Nurse doing much for the Appalachian Poverty Program. As we journey to Nashville, Tenn. we found Mrs. NADINE CARTER. She has been Kepuauite busy with all her “little Carters”, but she still finds time to attend ‘The Grand Ole Opry on weekends. Mrs, DONNA MEREITH Grasman is now working hard as a barmaid while her husband, Bill, remains a professional student, working for his Ph. D. and dodging the draft. Sunny Florida was our next quest. West Palm Beach is wonderful, especially if you have a Corvette stingray like Mrs, ELIZABETH McDANIELS Varnadore . Mrs, SYLVIA STOKES and her husband, Gary, have won many awards for their water skiing antics at Cypress Gardens. Miami Beach has gone wild over its latest nigh club singer, GLENYCE HARTZOG, at the famous Bowery nightclub. Pitekevtaveling all over the U.S., we decided to go abroad. We found JANIE TEAGUE to be a missionary in Africa, teaching the natives 101 ways to prepare pop- corn. SUSAN BAIRD was last seen running around the Alps of Switzerland after one of her many St. Barnard puppies. We happily submit this report of the success and happiness of the Class of 1968.
