october 28 - pierre salinger, campaign manager for sen. george mcgovern, spoke to approximately 350 people in esby gym, thurs- day, october 28. the former kennedy press secretary spoke on the history of government vs. the press, especially the publishing of the pentagon papers. salinger said, i believe that the government has the right to withhold information if the information, when published, would cause a clear and present danger to the government and the people of the u.s. but he warned, if we allow anybody to chip away at the rights of the first amendment, then we are eroding the basis of our liberty and free expression. . ,.....q.. hd! .pdf . 1 bln. yrs., ' 14,4 -. .-xsxa. fa f. ' december 13 linda lenness, socialist workers party candidate, addressed a group of 25 persons in the faculty lounge. miss ienness explained the party demands for an immedi- ate and unconditional u.s. troop withdrawal from southeast asia. other party demands were free education through the university level, guaranteed jobs upon graduation, plus abortions and birth control devices for women wanting them. the speech was concluded with miss ienness stating, if students, women, blacks and chicanos organize outside the capitalist parties, we can change society to meet the needs of the people.

december 7 - a farce-comedy, written by sir arthur wing pinero, the magistrate ran until december llth. the magistrate was written in 1885, and of all the early light-hearted farces that pinero wrote, it is the best. dr. michael f. kelly, chairman of the department of speech and drama, was director of the play. the play is so british that it was done in dialect for full comic effect.
