A few months after our entry into college, Pearl Harbor shattered the complacency of the campus and the Sophomores rallied to the many resulting revisions at Glassboro. We are an active group. Our satirical assembly program of the College As- sembly Lines featured class talent in the forms of singing, dancing and the new innovation: Sophombre Dance Orchestra. On the serious side, we are cooperating with the present Freshman Class in the production and completion of a college handbook which is an exceedingly difficult task because of the constant changes in the various phases of our college life re- sulting from the war. For the second time, Loriot Bozorth has been elected to the position of president. As assistant to the chief-of-staff, we have Ben Cummings. These two inseparables form the solid administrative phalanx. Secretary Wilkinson zealously guards the class history for posterity and Miss Dens- more ' s critical eye. Treasurer Meyers handles the complex problems of finance. The Sophomore Class hopes and expects to meet all exigencies with the same de- liberate manner as of the past year. Our stalwarts remained on the home front for the few games that they did play. Because of the man-power shortage, we had to draft that one-man cyclone, Lt. Through a maze of solfeggio and tonic cords β metronomes and choir gowns β the girls of the Glee Club practice faithfully. By Christmas, they deem themselves worthy of a public appearance and their royal blue choir gowns add a note of color to the solemn dignity of the Christmas Sing. After another period of fruitful hibernation and diligent rehearsal, they reappear to lend the charm of their voices to the Spring Concert and the Mother ' s Day Tea. Do you remember the delightful version of Humperdinck ' s Hansel and Gretel with Rosemary Sharpless and Cora Quinn in the title roles? The Junior Class has undergone many changes β advisers, graduation dates, sections, the ratio, and even our philos- ophies. Helping us to defeat the pesky con- stant, our guide Miss Elizabeth Tohill has become our true companion and friend. It is hoped that at the end of the race (goal β graduation), we Juniors will be remembered as having all our wits about us, though we started off with a Half Whit. Although some of our men will not have the opportunity to engage in activity, present- ing their accumulated knowledges and skills of the past few years, they are involved in preparing for the war effort. Behind us lie busy times and numerous changes; before us, busier times and more changes. There will be a probable summer session, shortened practice teaching and mid- winter graduation. We are caught in the grip of the constant, but we are expendable. Change has become our motto. Donald Winans President Margarite Kaufman Vice-President Virginia Self Secretary orchestra Miss Bozearth certainly has her headaches with an ever changing per- sonnel. If it isn ' t graduation, Army or Navy, then it ' s practice teaching. This industrious group diminished to about twenty members, carries on nevertheless and devotes Friday mornings to rehearsals. They are willing to forsake quantity but never, quality. The orchestra, the backbone of the music department, brightens our assemblies and special programs. Included in the year ' s performances are the annual college play, the Christmas Sing, and the Spring Concert. We will always remember the striking rendition of Victor Herbert melodies in the Musical Ballet a few years ago, when the dancing club and the orchestra cooperated to interpret his masterpieces. Under the kindly, understanding direction of Dr. Bunce, if has been a busy organization; busy to insure every student ' s welfare. The outstanding feat of the year has been the construction of the S.S.T.C. Service Banner. Don Jess, at the suggestion of the active Senior 4 section, accomplished this outstanding feat. A dedicatory assembly followed and was enjoyed by all, but the Student Council must be remembered mainly for the numerous small services it has rendered to the school, rather than any dramatic forensics. Under the hectic guidance of Barrymore Rhoades and aspiring Leitch, the Year Book has staggered to its final and forthright conclu- sion. The other indispensable can be dispensed with as easily.
