STUDENT- EACULTy COMMITTEES As one outgrowth of the policy that each individual who is a part of the College must be growing educationally at all times, and that growth is possible only if a real challenge or actual responsibility properly supervised is given each person, with the fullest possible utilization of each one ' s in- terests and powers in a cooperative scheme, Student-Faculty committees were organized. These committees, each composed of elected representatives from the various home rooms and three faculty members, met regularly each month to discuss problems related to the work of the committee, to make recom- mendations of policy which were referred to the President, and to carry out approved procedures. The Student Life and Student Welfare Committee studied the adjustments of members of the student body to the school environment, and formulated policies which guided the administrative officers in making campus life more beneficial to all. The Curriculum and Scholarship Committee concerned itself with school policies in regard to curricular adjustments and scholarship standards. Varia- tions in standards among staff members and class groups were studied and recommendations were made to the administrative officers. The Field Relationship Committee established contacts between the Col- lege and teachers in the field, making arrangements with teachers of southern New Jersey for displays of activities and for conferences between the College and the teachers in the area served. The High School Relationship Committee with its fun-making Play Day and interesting speakers sent out by the College to local high schools de- veloped a new recognition of the State Teachers College at Glassboro. The Publicity Committee inaugurated our first real newspaper, The Whit , to replace the defunct Collegian , and also kept the State informed of school activities by articles in thirty newspapers of New Jersey. The performances of Beyond the Horizon, Dulcy, the Irish Concert, and The Ballet Caravan were successful largely because of the efforts of the Public Pay Performances Committee. The Student Assembly Committee has afforded real opportunities for stu- dent participation in chapel programs, and has presented our faculty as in- dividual personalities, not merely as instructors. Well known lecturers were also presented. The Social Training and Hospitality Committee sponsored the memorable reception to our new President. Members of the Committee have acted as hosts and hostesses at all functions, professional and social, at the College. The Dormitory and Property Committee improved the lighting facilities of the College by the installation of flood-lights on the campus grounds, and it has steadily sponsored beautification of the campus. All committees have consistently and conscientiously worked to produce welcomed improvements at the College for both the students and faculty. [23]

STUDENT COUNCIL Following the suggestion of our new president, the unwieldy student council of previous years was replaced by a compact council composed of the presidents of all student organizations. In this way, representation was provided for every type of personality and interest in the school. In the council, each representative presents the problems peculiar to his own constituents. As a result of free discussion, suggested methods for the amelioration of these difficulties are formulated. The result is that more amicable relationships have been established between the students, the faculty, and the public. [22]
